Comparative Study
Prospective comparison of short-term convalescence: laparoscopic radical prostatectomy versus open radical retropubic prostatectomy.
To evaluate and compare prospectively the convalescence of patients after laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) and open radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP) in a standardized clinical care pathway at a single institution by two surgeons of equal experience and training. ⋯ Although LRP took almost twice as long to complete as RRP in our initial clinical experience, the patients had a similar hospital course. LRP patients required less pain medication after discharge and had a shorter time to complete recovery than did RRP patients. Additional studies are needed to address long-term cancer control, potency, and continence outcomes to determine the precise role of LRP in the treatment of men with clinically localized prostate cancer.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Long-term treatment with finasteride in men with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia: 10-year follow-up.
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of finasteride 5 mg during a 10-year period in men with enlarged prostates from a single center who participated in the double-blind and extension phases of the multicenter, Phase III, North American benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) trial. It is important that the long-term safety and efficacy of drugs intended for chronic administration in men with BPH be well understood. ⋯ This long-term follow-up study has demonstrated that appropriately selected patients with symptomatic BPH and enlarged prostates are likely to have a long-term response to taking finasteride 5 mg daily.

Music decreases anxiety and provides sedation in extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.
To evaluate the efficacy of music on sedation in extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) treatment to compare its anxiolytic effects with those of midazolam. ⋯ With the anxiolytic effects of music, ESWL can be performed more effectively with the patient in a comfortable state. Listening to music by patients during the ESWL session is a feasible and convenient alternative to sedatives and anxiolytics.

Case Reports
Renal pseudoaneurysm after blunt renal trauma in a pediatric patient: management by angiographic embolization.
Renal pseudoaneurysm is a rare complication after blunt renal trauma. Only 18 cases have been reported in English-language published reports. ⋯ The patient was initially treated with conservative measures and was later treated with selective embolization of the pseudoaneurysm. The clinical presentation, management options, and clinical decisions are discussed.

To determine the feasibility and safety of removing the urinary catheter on postoperative day (POD) 3 or 4 after radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP). ⋯ Most men will have a watertight anastomosis on POD 3 or 4 after RRP. Early catheter removal does not have a negative impact on continence or the rate of anastomotic strictures. Because of the high incidence of AUR, requiring replacement of the urinary catheter, and the potential for disruption of the anastomosis or bladder neck reconstruction, we currently recommend delaying catheter removal until POD 7 or later.
