Traumatic injuries of the permanent maxillory incisors at Dental Department, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad: a retrospective study.
The study aims to ascertain the prevalence of traumatic dental injures of the maxillary permanent incisors at Dental Department, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad during the years 2003-2005. Information concerning age, sex, cause, type of tooth, number of injured teeth and patterns of tooth injury were recorded retrospectively from 336 patients aged between 8-40 years, comprising 498 traumatized teeth. ⋯ Raising public dental awareness regarding the serious outcome of traumatic dental injuries is mandatory to improve the prognosis of dental trauma and to avoid complications.

Effectiveness and safety of vaginal misoprostol for induction of labour in unfavourable cervix in 3rd trimester.
The use of prostaglandin preparations with or without oxytocin infusion, is widely recognized and accepted as a standard method of induction of labour. It has been shown to reduce induction time and the risk of failed induction. The objective of this quasi-experimental observational study was to determine the effectiveness and safety of Misoprostol administered vaginally for induction of labour to achieve vaginal delivery. ⋯ Vaginal Misoprostol appears to be safe and effective for cervical ripening in 3rd Trimester. It helps vaginal delivery within 24 hours, does not increase incidence of Caesarean Section and has no adverse effect on foetal outcome. It could also be used in circumstances where extensive monitoring techniques are not available though close observation and vigilance is mandatory.

Comparative StudyThe comparison of placental removal methods on operative blood loss.
On an average 1 litre of blood is lost during Caesarean Section. Many variable techniques have been tried to reduce this blood loss. Many study trials have shown the spontaneous delivery of placenta method to be superior over manual method because of reduced intra operative blood loss and reduced incidence of post operative endometritis. The main objective of our study was to compare the risk of blood loss associated with spontaneous and manual removal of the placenta during caesarean section. ⋯ Spontaneous delivery of placenta has significant reduction of blood loss as compared to manual removal at caesarean section.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyPost dural puncture headache after spinal anaesthesia for caesarean section: a comparison of 25 g Quincke, 27 g Quincke and 27 g Whitacre spinal needles.
To compare the frequency and severity of post dural puncture headache in obstetric patients using 25G Quincke, 27G Quincke and 27G Whitacre spinal needles. ⋯ When using a 27G Whitacre spinal needle, the frequency and severity of PDPH was significantly lower than when a 25G Quincke or 27G Quincke needle was used.

Comparative StudyComparison of CT scan and colour flow Doppler ultrasound in detecting venous tumour thrombous in renal cell carcinoma.
Renal cell carcinoma has marked tendency to spread into renal vein, inferior vena cava and right side of heart. Extension of tumour thrombus into these veins will alter the surgical approach. We have compared the CT scan with Colour flow Doppler ultrasound in detecting venous tumour thrombus in renal vein and inferior vena cava. ⋯ The overall sensitivity of Doppler sonography was higher than CT scan in detecting tumour extension into renal veins and inferior vena cava. Therefore, it can be used as a complementary tool in equivocal cases.
