RATE AND INDICATIONS OF ELECTIVE AND EMERGENCY CAESAREAN SECTION; A STUDY IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL OF PESHAWAR.
The study was conducted to determine the rate and clinical indications for emergency and elective caesarean section. ⋯ The rate of caesarean section was only slightly higher than recommended by the WHO. Most of caesarean sections were emergency caesarean sections.

Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) is an important and common complication of mechanically ventilated patients. It is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Intensive Care Units (ICU) worldwide. The aim of study was to determine the pattern of bacteria involved in VAP in intensive care unit of Jinnah hospital Lahore. ⋯ Major pathogenic organisms of VAP in our ICU are Gram negative bacteria. The Bacteriological culture of endobroncheal aspirates is helpful in the diagnosis and management of VAP. Emperic antibiotic therapy for VAP should cover Gram negative organisms.

PERFORMANCE OF TWO DIFFERENT CLINICAL SCORING SYSTEMS IN DIAGNOSING DISTAL SENSORY POLYNEUROPATHY IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE-2 DIABETES.
Early diagnosis of distal peripheral neuropathy (DSPN) the commonest diabetes complications, helps prevent significant morbidity. Clinical parameters are useful for detection, but subjectivity and lack of operator proficiency often results in inaccuracies. Comparative diagnostic accuracy of Diabetic Neuropathy Symptom (DNS) score and Diabetic Neuropathy Examination (DNE) score in detecting DSPN confirmed by nerve conduction studies (NCS) has not been evaluated. This study compares the performance of these scores in predicting the presence of electro physiologically proven DSPN. The objective of this, study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of DNS and DNE scores in detecting NCS proven DSPN in type-2 diabetics, and to determine the frequency of sub-clinical DSPN among type-2 diabetics. ⋯ DNE score alone and in combination with DNS score is reliable in predicting DSPN and is more specific than DNS score in evaluating DSPN. Both tests lack sensitivity. Patients without any evidence of clinical neuropathy manifest abnormalities on NCS.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyAttenuation of haemodynamic response to laryngoscopy and oral endotracheal intubation in coronary artery bypass surgery patients: intravenous morphine and lidocaine versus intravenous morphine and lidocaine spray.
Sympathetic response associated with laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation is recognized as a potential cause for a number of complications especially in coronary bypass surgery patients. Various methods have been used to attenuate these hemodynamic responses, The aim of our study was to compare lidocaine spray in addition to intravenous morphine on attenuating the hemodynamic response to laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation with intravenous lidocaine and morphine in coronary artery bypass surgery patients. ⋯ Under the present study design, lidocaine spray in addition to intravenous morphine had no better effect on attenuating the hemodynamic response to laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation as compared to intravenous lidocaine and morphine in coronary artery bypass surgery patients.
