Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) has been well described by computed tomography (CT) and by non-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We present a case of Gd-DTPA enhanced MRI of HSE and its evolution under antiviral therapy.

One hundred patients with degenerative disease of the lumbar spine on whom both magnetic resonance (MR) and computed tomography (CT)-myelography were performed were reviewed. In one-third of the cases, the CT-myelogram provided additional useful information. This included definition of the extent of large disc herniations, demonstration of focal neural compression by small herniations, and clarifying abnormalities of the facets, including synovial cysts. These results should help to refine the indications for CT-myelography, which continues to be requested extensively.

Mediastinal bronchopulmonary foregut duplication cysts are usually identified on computed tomography (CT) as well-defined masses of water density that may contain rim calcification. Occasionally they are heterogenous in attenuation or are of intermediate or high attenuation due to contained calcium. ⋯ We report a bronchogenic cyst that communicated with the trachea and was identified by CT as a multilocolor, completely air-filled cyst adjacent to the trachea and esophagus. This appearance of a bronchogenic cyst has received little attention in the literature.
