Penetrating neck trauma: radiological predictors of vascular injury.
Vascular injury in penetrating neck trauma predicts a poorer outcome and usually requires surgical neck exploration. Multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) angiography is a readily available non-invasive diagnostic tool that can identify direct and indirect signs of vascular injury in stable patients. This study aims to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of radiological signs of vascular injury on MDCT, and their implications on patient management in the setting of penetrating neck trauma. ⋯ The use of direct and indirect radiological signs of vascular injury can increase the accuracy of diagnosis when used in conjunction with clinical signs. Combining clinical assessment and radiological investigation, specifically contrast-enhanced MDCT, improves the specificity in pre-operative assessment of potential vascular injury in PNI. MDCT is recommended in stable patients with clinical signs of vascular injury to reduce the rate of negative neck exploration.

Endoscopic skull base reconstruction with the nasoseptal flap: complications and risk factors.
The endoscopic endonasal approach is increasingly being used for resection and reconstruction of anterior skull base lesions. The vascularized nasoseptal flap (NSF) has become the workhorse for reconstruction of anterior skull base defects, resulting in a significant decrease in the incidence of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. This study presents a single center's experience with NSFs and reports associated complications. ⋯ NSF is an extremely effective tool for skull base reconstruction. While it is associated with a low rate of major complications, minor complications are frequent and require local treatment, although they tend to resolve in the late postoperative period.

Comprehensive analysis of gene expression and DNA methylation for human nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the most malignant head and neck carcinomas with unique epidemiological features. In this study, we aimed to identify the novel NPC-related genes and biological pathways, shedding light on the potential molecular mechanisms of NPC. ⋯ Our study was helpful to elucidate the underlying mechanism of NPC and provide clues for therapeutic methods.
