Isoflurane can elicit cognitive impairment. However, the pathogenesis in the brain remains inconclusive. The present study investigated the mechanism of glutamate neurotoxicity in adolescent male rats that underwent postnatal isoflurane exposure and the role of sodium butyrate (NaB) in cognitive impairment induced by isoflurane exposure. ⋯ Treatment with NaB not only restored the histone acetylation of the GLT-1 and mGLuR1/5 promoter regions and glutamate excitatory neurotoxicity in hippocampal neurons, but also improved cognitive impairment in vivo. Moreover, NaB may be a potential therapeutic drug for cognitive impairment caused by isoflurane exposure. These results suggest that postnatal isoflurane exposure contributes to cognitive impairment via decreasing histone acetylation of glutamatergic systems in the hippocampus of adolescent rats.

Neuropathic pain results in considerable trouble to people's physical and mental health. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying its occurrence and development remain unclear. A large number of experiments show that microRNAs (miRNAs) play a major role in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain and neuroinflammation resulting from nerve injury. ⋯ Furthermore, the miR-221 inhibitor markedly suppressed the activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) signaling pathway. Knockdown of SOCS1 in CCI rats abrogated the inhibitory effect of the miR-221 inhibitor on CCI-induced neuropathic pain and the NF-κB and p38 MAPK signaling pathways. Together, these results suggest that inhibition of miR-221 alleviates neuropathic pain and neuroinflammation through increasing SOCS1 and by inhibiting the NF-κB and p38 MAPK signaling pathways, indicating that miR-221 may be a promising molecular target for the treatment of neuropathic pain.

Meta Analysis
Meta-Analysis of the Efficiency and Prognosis of Intracranial Aneurysm Treated with Flow Diverter Devices.
Flow diverter devices (FDDs) are increasingly used in the treatment of intracranial aneurysm. The safety and feasibility of FDD were assessed in published literature. In accordance with strict inclusion criteria, Medline, Embase, Cochrane, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Web of Science databases were searched for literature that covers a period until February 2015. ⋯ The publication bias of aneurysm occlusion was detected by Begg's rank, and the corrected result is less than 0.05. Our meta-analysis suggests that the treatment of intracranial aneurysm with FDD is feasible and effective with a high occlusion rate, acceptable morbidity, and mortality. However, the morbidity or mortality of giant aneurysms is still high.

Inhibitor of DNA binding/differentiation 2 (Id2) belongs to a helix-loop-helix family of proteins. Recent studies have showed that Id2 plays a pivotal role in neuronal survival and neuroprotection. However, under neuropathic pain conditions, the role of Id2 is still unclear. ⋯ Furthermore, knockdown of Id2 reduces the expression of NF-κB p65 in the DRG of CCI rats. Taken together, our findings suggest that knockdown of Id2 may alleviate neuropathic pain by inhibiting the NF-κB activation to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory mediators. Therefore, Id2 may provide an important target of neuropathic pain treatment.

The basolateral amygdala (BLA) is rich of CB1 cannabinoid receptors (CB1R) and has reciprocal connections with the nucleus accumbens (NAc) which is involved in opioid sensitization. In this study, effects of intra-BLA administration of CB1R agonist on sensitization to antinociceptive effect of morphine and changes in the levels of μ-opioid receptor (MOR), p-CREB, and c-fos in the NAc were investigated. Animals received intra-BLA microinjection of CB1R agonist (WIN55,212-2) once daily for 3 days consecutively (sensitization period). ⋯ The results indicated that intra-BLA injection of WIN55,212-2 during sensitization period resulted in the induction of antinociceptive responses by ineffective dose of morphine and caused a significant increase in the MOR and c-fos levels but not p-CREB/CREB ratio in the NAc. These finding revealed that CB1 receptor agonist in the BLA induces development of morphine sensitization and increases expression of MOR in the NAc. It seems that c-fos is one of the important factors involved in the induction of sensitization to antinociceptive effect of morphine.
