Potential prognostic biomarkers for patients with sepsis have yet to be identified. The present study evaluated the prognostic value of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) levels in patients with sepsis. ⋯ FGF21 could serve as a new prognostic biomarker for sepsis survival.

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is one of the most common respiratory diseases in children. It is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Moderate-to-severe AR decreases the quality of life and social performance in children. ⋯ The loci in EMSY and IL4 can be considered as a hereditary marker for childhood AR. The rs7130588_G allele seems to predispose only to moderate-to-severe AR, though other mechanisms are also likely to be involved.

Although two meta-analysis have reported no association between the tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)-308G/A polymorphism and susceptibility to pre-eclampsia (PE), recent studies showed the association was still controversial. Thus, we conduct an updated meta-analysis to elucidate this association. ⋯ Current evidence demonstrates that carriers of TNF-α (308A) allele would increase the susceptibility to PE, especially among Caucasian, Iranian and primipara.

Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis cause significant physical and psychological burdens for afflicted individuals. An accelerated TNF-α/IL-23/IL-17 axis is their major pathomechanism; therefore, anti-TNF-α/IL-23/IL-17 biologics are very effective for the treatment of skin and joint lesions in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Given that the IL-17 signature is more upregulated in the skin than in synovium in psoriatic arthritis, anti-IL-23/IL-17 agents seem to be superior to anti-TNF-α remedies in the treatment of skin lesions. In this review, we focus on the differential efficacy of anti-TNF-α/IL-23/IL-17 biologics in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
