Translation and validation of the Danish version of the postoperative quality of recovery score QoR-15.
Patient perceived quality of recovery is an important outcome after surgery and should be measured in clinical trials. Quality of recovery after surgery and general anaesthesia can be measured by the QoR-15. A high score indicates a good recovery and the score ranges from 0 to 150. The aim of this study was to translate the QoR-15 questionnaire into Danish and do a full psychometric evaluation of the Danish version. ⋯ The QoR-15D has preserved the validity, excellent reliability, high degree of responsiveness and the clinical feasibility of the original English version.

Review Meta AnalysisPeripherally applied opioids for postoperative pain: evidence of an analgesic effect? A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Opioids applied peripherally at the site of surgery may produce postoperative analgesia with few side effects. We performed this systematic review to evaluate the analgesic effect of peripherally applied opioids for acute postoperative pain. ⋯ Evidence of a clinically relevant analgesic effect of peripherally applied opioids for acute postoperative pain is lacking. The analgesic effect of peripherally applied opioids may depend on the presence of preoperative inflammation.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyVariability in targeted arterial oxygenation levels in patients with severe sepsis or septic shock.
Supplemental oxygen therapy is used for intensive care (ICU) patients with severe sepsis, but with no general guidelines and few safety data. The aim of this observational study was to describe the variability in oxygen administration as well as the association between partial pressure of arterial oxygen (PaO2 ) and mortality. ⋯ Administration of oxygen in patients with severe sepsis resulted in a wide range of PaO2 . Significantly higher mortality was observed in patients with an average PaO2 < 8 kPa and FiO2 ≥ 0.60. The results do not imply causation and the associations between average PaO2 and adverse outcomes have to be assessed further.

Kinetics of leukocyte CD11b and CD64 expression in severe sepsis and non-infectious critical care patients.
Leukocyte surface molecules may improve sepsis diagnostics. Our aim was to study whether monocyte and neutrophil CD11b and CD64 expression differs between patients with severe sepsis (including septic shock) and intensive care unit (ICU) controls, and also to investigate the expression kinetics in patient groups. ⋯ Neutrophil CD64 as well as neutrophil and monocyte CD11b expressions were highest in severe sepsis compared with non-infectious conditions, and thus analyses of their expression may be promising approach for sepsis diagnosis in ICU population.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of single-shot and steady-state propofol anaesthesia on rocuronium dose-response relationship: a randomised trial.
Similar to volatile anaesthetics, propofol may influence neuromuscular transmission. We hypothesised that the administration of propofol influenced the potency of rocuronium depending on the duration of the administration. ⋯ The potency of rocuronium was significantly enhanced after propofol infusion for 30 min. Estimates of potency those are usually determined during steady-state anaesthesia might underestimate rocuronium requirements for endotracheal intubation at the time of induction.
