Left atrial appendage exclusion and the risk of thromboembolic events following mitral valve surgery.
We aimed to evaluate left atrial appendage (LAA) exclusion in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery with respect to thromboembolic events. ⋯ In this observational study, patients who undergo LAA exclusion during mitral valve surgery to reduce the risk of thromboembolism have a significant incidence of thromboembolic events, especially when warfarin therapy is not prescribed upon hospital discharge.

Randomized Controlled TrialComputed tomography-fluoroscopy image integration-guided catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation.
This study examines the feasibility of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation using registered three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) images of the left atrium with fluoroscopy. ⋯ CT-fluoroscopic-guided left atrial ablation is feasible and allows appropriate catheter manipulation in the left atrium.

Comparative StudyVentricular function and long-term pacing in children with congenital complete atrioventricular block.
To determine the sequela of right ventricular pacing in children with congenital complete atrioventricular block. ⋯ Left ventricular dysfunction in patients with congenital complete atrioventricular block is a rare finding, even in those who have been paced for more than 10 years. Right ventricular apex pacing and prolonged QRS duration may be associated with decreased ventricular function over time. At this time, with such a low incidence of cardiac dysfunction, right ventricular pacing should be considered an acceptable first-line therapy in this population.
