Although metatarsal fractures are amongst the most common injuries of the foot, this is the first study on outcome after metatarsal fractures. ⋯ This is the first investigation using two validated outcome scoring systems to determine functional outcome in metatarsal fractures. Overall outcome in metatarsal fractures is high, as almost all fractures healed without complaints at 33 months. Outcome is dependent on BMI, diabetes, gender, and dislocation at the fracture site.

Approximately 10-15% of all fractures of long bones heal with delay, prolonged immobilization and repetitive operative interventions. Despite intense investigations, the pathomechanism of impaired healing of skeletal tissue remains unclear. An important role in the pathomechanism of mal-union of close fractures plays subclinically proceeding infections. ⋯ Individuals bearing the mutant TLR 4 gene 1/W (Asp299Gly) and TGF-β gene codon 10 mutant T and T/C allele may predispose to impaired pathogen recognition and elimination, leading to prolonged pathogen existence in the fracture gaps and healing delays.

Case ReportsSurgical reconstruction using suture anchor for dislocation of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb: a case report.
Dislocation of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb is a rare injury. This is the first report in the literature performing ligamentous reconstruction using suture anchors in a case of severe joint instability after manipulative reduction for dislocation of the first carpometacarpal joint. Our surgical procedure successfully resulted in a stable pain-free thumb 1 year postoperatively.

Single-stage posterior debridement and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion with autogenous bone grafting and posterior instrumentation in the surgical management of lumbar tuberculosis.
To describe a case series to highlight the clinical effectiveness of single-stage posterior debridement and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) with autogenous bone grafting and posterior instrumentation in the surgical management of lumbar tuberculosis. ⋯ Single-stage posterior debridement and TLIF with autogenous bone grafting and posterior instrumentation is a safe and effective approach to treating with early-diagnosed and less-involved lumbar tuberculosis.
