ReviewTowards standardised definitions of shoulder arthroplasty complications: a systematic review of terms and definitions.
A transparent, reliable and accurate reporting of complications is essential for an evidence-based evaluation of shoulder arthroplasty (SA). We systematically reviewed the literature for terms and definitions related to negative events associated with SA. ⋯ A clear standardised set of SA complication definitions is lacking. Few authors reported complications based on definitions mainly considering radiological criteria without clinical parameters. This review should initiate and support the development of a standardised SA complication core set.

Rehabilitation of Achilles tendon ruptures: is early functional rehabilitation daily routine?
Ruptures of the Achilles tendon are the most common tendon injuries of the lower extremities. Besides the initial operative or non-operative treatment, rehabilitation of patients plays a crucial role for tendon healing and long-term outcome. As only limited evidence is available for optimized rehabilitation regimen and guidelines for the initial (e.g., first 6 weeks) rehabilitation are limited, this study investigated the current rehabilitation concepts after Achilles tendon rupture. ⋯ Our study shows that a huge variability in rehabilitation after Achilles tendon rupture exists. This study shows different strategies in rehabilitation of Achilles tendon ruptures using a convertible vacuum brace system. To improve patient care, further clinical as well as biomechanical studies need to be conducted. This study might serve as basis for prospective randomized controlled trials to optimize rehabilitation for Achilles tendon ruptures.

Outcome following subluxation of mobile articulating spacers in two-stage revision total knee arthroplasty.
Infection after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a severe complication. It is usually treated with two-stage revision and implantation of a cement spacer. Few studies describe the complications associated with a mobile articulating spacer. This study examined the subluxation of articulating antibiotic spacers in knees and correlated it with prospectively collected early outcome scores after implantation of a revision prosthesis. ⋯ Sagittal subluxation of the knee may influence the early to midterm outcome scores following a staged revision TKA for infection.

Isolated acetabular revision with femoral stem retention after bipolar hip arthroplasty.
In bipolar hemiarthroplasty, migration of the outer cup component into the acetabular cup, with evidence of severe osteolysis in the acetabulum, commonly occurs without loosening of the femoral component. The merits of retaining the stable femoral component in these cases have been debated. Our study aimed to determine whether revision of the acetabular component in isolation could be successfully performed. ⋯ Isolated acetabular revision can be reliably performed in cases of failed bipolar hemiarthroplasty with a well-fixed femoral component.

Up to 50% of traumatic sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) dislocations need open reduction and fixation to prevent long-term complications and complaints. We present our preferred surgical approach for acute as well as chronic SCJ dislocations, including their outcome. ⋯ The presented technique allowed simple, effective, and durable repair of the SCJ joint in patients with SCJ dislocations with excellent functional outcomes.
