Secondary femur shaft fracture following treatment with cephalomedullary nail: a retrospective single-center experience.
Secondary femur fracture subsequent to treatment of trochanteric fractures with cephalomedullary nailing (i.e., a periprosthetic fracture related to the cephalomedullary nail) is a rare but very severe complication. As such, the aim of this study was to assess the impact of revision surgery and general state of health on mortality and functional outcomes in patients suffering femur fractures following treatment with cephalomedullary nails. ⋯ Femoral shaft facture subsequent to fixation of trochanteric fracture with cephalomedullary nails is a severe complication. It leads to prolonged hospital stays and delayed recovery. Postoperative hospital stay mortality rates may be as high as 16.6%.

Clinical and radiological outcomes after reverse shoulder arthroplasty with less medialized endoprosthesis after mean follow-up time of 45 months.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate outcomes after reverse shoulder arthroplasty for the treatment of complex three- and four-fragment proximal humeral fractures after mean follow-up time of 45 months and to compare our results with the results published by other authors. ⋯ Results after reverse arthroplasty for complex proximal humeral fractures yield good clinical, functional, and radiological outcomes after mean follow-up time of 45 months. Results are comparable to other studies published in the recent literature.

Review Meta AnalysisEffect and safety of early weight-bearing on the outcome after open-wedge high tibial osteotomy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of early weight-bearing by comparing clinical and radiological outcomes between early and traditional delayed weight-bearing after OWHTO. ⋯ Our analysis supports that early full weight-bearing after OWHTO using a locking plate leads to improvement in outcomes and was comparable to the delayed weight-bearing in terms of clinical and radiological outcomes. On the contrary, early weight-bearing was more favorable with respect to some radiologic parameters and complications compared with delayed weight-bearing.

Return to sporting activity after osteochondral autograft transplantation for Freiberg disease in young athletes.
Freiberg disease is defined as osteochondrosis of the metatarsal head and typically occurs in adolescents with sporting activity. This study aimed to evaluate the sporting activity of young athletes after osteochondral autograft transplantation (OAT) for Freiberg disease. ⋯ All young athletes who underwent OAT for Freiberg disease achieved early return to almost equal sporting activity postoperatively and exhibited a significant improvement of the ROM of the metatarsophalangeal joint with almost no knee pain.

Good isometric and isokinetic power restoration after distal biceps tendon repair with anchors.
Distal biceps brachii tendon rupture can lead to 30-40% power loss of elbow flexion and up to 50% of forearm supination. Re-fixation of the distal biceps brachii tendon is recommended to warrant an adequate quality of the patient's life. This study reports the isometric and isokinetic results after anchor re-fixation 2.5 years after surgery. ⋯ Level III, case-control study.
