Micro-ct findings of concentrated growth factors (cgf) on bone healing in masquelet's technique-an experimental study in rabbits.
A recent histopathological and immunohistochemical study has proved that the addition of concentrated growth factors (CGF) to the Masquelet's technique contributes to the quality of the membrane formed, in respect of inducing inflammation and proliferation, maintaining vascularization on large diaphyseal bone defects, and increasing the number of stem cells. The aim of the study is comparison of radiological results of this combination treatment by micro-CT. ⋯ Level III, therapeutic/care management.

Multicenter StudyIntraoperative damage to surgical gloves during various operations on the musculoskeletal system: a multicenter study.
Various orthopedic surgical procedures cause mechanical stress for gloves. In some cases, sharp-edged objects impact on the glove surfaces. The systematic description of lesions is still missing. ⋯ All investigated interventions led to glove lesions. With increasing mechanical stress, the number of glove defects increased. EN 455 does not account for the intraoperative tear risk. Stricter requirements for gloves should be introduced. Glove change intervals should be defined and implemented, and new materials should be developed.

Medial Open Wedge High tibial Osteotomy (MOWHTO) does not relevantly alter patellar kinematics: a cadaveric study.
The purpose of this study was to quantify the influence of medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy on patellar kinematics using optical computer navigation, as anterior knee pain infrequently occurs postoperatively and the reason is still being unknown. ⋯ Except less external rotation of the patella, medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy does not seem to relevantly alter patellar alignment during passive motion. Future clinical studies have to prove the effect of MOWHTO on patellar kinematics measured in this experimental setup, especially regarding its influence on anterior knee pain.

Modelling gluteus medius tendon degeneration and repair in a large animal model.
Gluteus medius tendon tears often occur in the context of chronic tendinopathy and remain a difficult clinical problem. Surgical repair is challenging as it is often delayed and performed in degenerative tendons. No animal model currently exists to mimic the delayed repair of tendinopathic gluteus medius tears. The aims of this study were to develop a chronic model of gluteus medius tendinopathy and tear and then compare this model to an acute gluteus medius tear and repair. ⋯ Tendon detachment for 6 weeks is sufficient to produce histological changes similar to chronic tendinopathy and repair of this degenerative tendon results in significantly poorer healing when compared to an acute repair model. Animal models for gluteus medius tears should use a delayed repair model to improve clinical validity.

Long-term outcome of patients with primary or secondary tumors of the proximal femur treated by bipolar modular tumor prosthesis.
The proximal femur is a common area for primary and also metastatic bone tumors. The objective of this study was to assess the long-term functional and oncological outcomes of patients with malignant primary or secondary tumors of the proximal femur, who underwent proximal femoral resection then reconstruction using bipolar modular tumor prosthesis. ⋯ Level IV, retrospective case series.
