Comparative Study Controlled Clinical TrialUse of tranexamic acid in medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy.
Aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of tranexamic acid (TXA) on the outcome after medial open wedge osteotomy. ⋯ The results of the present study show the systemic application of 1 g TXA reduces hemoglobin drop and postoperative morbidity (pain, intraarticular effusion, and ROM) after tibial open wedge HTO.

Risk of stroke after unilateral or bilateral TKA (simultaneous and staged without discharge) in 327,438 matched patients using data from the National Health Insurance Claims for South Korea.
This study aims to investigate the incidence rate and risk factors of stroke in patients treated with bilateral TKA compared with patients with unilateral TKA. ⋯ The risk of stroke was lower in patients treated with bilateral TKA than in patients with unilateral TKA. Patients treated with bilateral TKA were at decreased risk of stroke when the following variables were present: age (70-79 years), female sex, health insurance, history of hypertension drug use, and comorbidities, such as congestive heart failure, connective tissue disease, and diabetes.

Analysis of the subcapital two-part humerus fracture by fluoroscopy: objective criteria for classification and decision making.
Surgical decision making in the treatment of proximal humerus fractures (PHFx) is primarily based on fracture classification using standard radiographs. Due to the lack of objective criteria, this classification process is associated with high interobserver variation. In this study, we investigate the fluoroscopic analysis of humerus fractures through the surgical neck using a semi-quantitative determination of distinct angulation patterns of the proximal humerus as they appear in the image intensifier. ⋯ Basic Science, Anatomy Study, Imaging.

Analysis of perioperative outcomes in hip resection arthroplasty.
Hip resection arthroplasty (HRA) is a salvage surgical technique for the management of complex hip conditions wherein arthroplasty may be contraindicated. The purpose of this study was to review modern-day indications for HRA and compare outcomes between patients undergoing HRA and revision total hip arthroplasty (RTHA). ⋯ III.

The number of stairs into home do not impact discharge disposition and patient reported outcomes after total joint arthroplasty.
The purpose of this study is to report on the association between the number of stairs to enter home and length of stay (LOS), discharge disposition, and patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) among patients who underwent primary total joint arthroplasty (TJA). ⋯ We found no statistical differences in LOS, discharge disposition, and PROMs in patients who underwent TJA, irrespective of the number of stairs negotiated to enter their home. These findings can aid surgeons to provide preoperative education and reassurance to patients who have concerns with their discharge planning due to the walk-up stairway at their residence.
