Twenty-year results of a neck-preserving short-stem prosthesis in primary total hip arthroplasty.
The use of short-stemmed femoral components with preservation of the femoral neck has been advocated for younger and more active patients undergoing joint replacement. This study reports the long-term outcomes of the Collum Femoris-Preserving (CFP) prosthesis on a previous report. ⋯ The long-term outcomes of the CFP stem are excellent, demonstrating a low rate of aseptic loosening with an excellent survivorship within 2 decades.

Lateral locking plate plus antero-posterior lag screws techniques for the management of posterolateral tibial plateau fracture: preliminary clinical results and biomechanical study.
To date, there is no consensus on the optimal surgical strategy for the treatment of posterolateral tibial plateau fracture (PLF). This study introduced a novel, simple technique for treating PLF with a lateral locking plate plus antero-posterior lag screws (LPpLS). ⋯ The LPpLS technique could implement good reconstruction of the PLF, showing satisfactory therapeutic effect. The biomechanical evaluation demonstrated that the LPpLS had better stability in three-dimensional directions for PLF than other fixation strategies.

Does systemic lupus erythematosus impact the peri-operative complication rates following primary total knee arthroplasty? A national inpatient sample-based large-scale study.
Consequent to improved life expectancies, there has been a substantial increase in the proportion of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) over the past 2 decades. In comparison to the other inflammatory disorders, the complication rates and post-operative outcome in patients with SLE are less clearly understood, owing to the paucity of evidence in the literature. ⋯ The presence of SLE significantly lengthens hospital stay, and augments the health-care-related costs in patients undergoing TKA. The rates of peri-prosthetic infections, post-operative anemia, and need for blood transfusions are significantly greater in SLE patients.

Instrumented fusion versus instrumented non-fusion following expansive open-door laminoplasty for multilevel cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament.
To compare the outcomes of expansive open-door laminoplasty with instrumented fusion (ELIF) and expansive open-door laminoplasty with instrumented non-fusion (ELINF) for multilevel cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). ⋯ ELIF and ELINF were two effective surgical procedures for treating multilevel cervical OPLL. However, ELIF was superior to ELINF due to better postoperative JOA score and RR, significant improvement of C2-C7 Cobb angle and maintenance of SVA, and suppressant effect on OPLL progression, especially for patients with K-line ( - ) OPLL.

Outcomes of ultra-old vs old patients after hip fracture surgery: a matched cohort analysis of 1524 patients.
Surgical management of geriatric hip fractures yields improved functional outcomes with decreased morbidity and mortality. Cohort studies have suggested that the older patients within the geriatric age group have worse outcomes with surgery, However, these studies inherently report inflated risks due to poor handling of confounders and have inadequately age-stratified their geriatric population. ⋯ The 1-year mortality of surgically-managed geriatric hip fracture patients older than 85 years of age is not determined by age alone. Patients aged 85 years and above are at higher risk for pneumonia postoperatively. Ultra-old hip fracture patients with an intertrochanteric fracture are more likely to have poorer function at 1 year after hip fracture surgery.
