Comparing the accuracy of three-dimensional mini-optical portable navigation and accelerometer-based portable navigation system for acetabular cup placement during total hip arthroplasty.
This study compared the accuracy of three dimensional (3D) mini-optical navigation and accelerometer-based portable navigation systems for cup positioning during a total hip arthroplasty (THA) in the supine position. ⋯ This is the first study to compare the accuracy of cup positioning between 3D mini-optical and accelerometer-based navigations in THA in the supine position. Both portable navigation systems accurately identified the orientation of cup placement. The accuracy of 3D mini-optical navigation is not affected by high BMI and may be preferred over other options in such patients.

A double tapered fully hydroxyapatite-coated stem has less contact area to femoral cortical bone than a tapered-wedge stem: a three-dimensional computed tomography-based density mapping analysis.
It is clinically important to analyze the initial contact state between an implant and femoral cortical bone as it affects clinical outcomes, such as stress shielding, stem subsidence, thigh pain, and patient-reported outcomes after total hip arthroplasty. Whether the initial contact state of a double-tapered fully hydroxyapatite (HA)-coated stem is achieved with the preserved cancellous or cortical bone remains to be established. This study aimed to compare the contact area with the femoral cortical bone between a double-tapered fully HA-coated stem (HA group) and a tapered wedge cementless stem (TW group) using three-dimensional computed tomography (3DCT)-based templating software. ⋯ The contact area of the double-tapered fully HA-coated stem was significantly lower than that of the tapered wedge cementless stem.

Posterior wall fractures of the acetabulum: treatment using an anatomical plate through direct posterior approach.
This study was aimed to measure the application of W-shaped acetabular angular plate (WAAP) through direct posterior approach (DPA) on the reconstruction of acetabular posterior wall fractures when compared with reconstruction plates. ⋯ The application of WAAP through DPA showed satisfactory preliminary clinical outcomes, showing promise to be an alternative technique for the treatment of acetabular posterior wall fractures.

Ossification of the posterior capitellum: description of a new pathology and its radiological appearance.
Boxer elbow and handball goalkeeper elbow are causes of impingement characterized by osteophytes formation at the olecranon and coronoid tip as well as their corresponding fossae. Herein, we present another distinct pathology in these patients: the formation of an exostosis at the posterolateral aspect of the elbow. ⋯ In patients without history of elbow trauma, bony irregularities of the posterior aspect of the capitellum may indicate ossification of the posterolateral aspect of the elbow, most likely caused by repetitive hyperextensions.

Failure rates and patient-reported outcomes of revision of total ankle arthroplasty.
Despite the increasing number of revision total ankle arthroplasty (TAA), the literature on indications, surgical options, and outcomes is limited. This study reports on failure rates and patient-reported outcomes (PROM) for a cohort of 122 patients who underwent revision of TAA. ⋯ The high failure rate of polyethylene exchange indicates that the intervention does not address the actual cause of failed TAA in many cases. Additional axis correction should be considered more frequently. If the underlying issues of prosthesis failure can be identified and sufficiently addressed, the results of revision surgery are likely to improve.
