Difference analysis of the glenoid centerline between 3D preoperative planning and 3D printed prosthesis manipulation in total shoulder arthroplasty.
Excessive version and inclination of the glenoid component during total shoulder arthroplasty can lead to glenohumeral instability, early loosening, and even failure. The orientation and position of the central pin determine the version and inclination of the glenoid component. The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in centerline position and orientation obtained using "3D preoperative planning based on the best-fit method for glenoid elements" and the surgeon's manipulation. ⋯ The central pin drilled by surgeons using general instruments was significantly lower than those defined using 3D preoperative planning and standard central definitions. 3D preoperative planning prevents the version and inclination of the centerline from exceeding safe values (± 10°).

Retrospective evaluation of radiological and clinical outcomes after surgical treatment of proximal femur fractures utilizing TFNA.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes of patients treated with the TFN-Advanced™ Proximal Femoral Nailing system (TFNA¸ DePuy Synthes, West Chester, PA) including intra- and postoperative complications. ⋯ Proximal femur fractures treated with the TFNA show low complication rates and high levels of radiological healing. Implant-related complications might be more common in patients with younger age, a lower CCI-score and lower frequency of osteoporosis. Usage of cement augmentation could potentially be beneficial to reduce postoperative cut-through and cut-out.

Does mechanism of injury impact the outcome of operative fixation of geriatric proximal humerus fractures.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of energy mechanism on outcomes following repair of proximal humerus fractures (PHF) in the middle aged and geriatric population. ⋯ Energy and mechanism demonstrates similar outcomes in operatively treated proximal humerus fractures. These factors should not play a role in decisions for surgery in these patients and can help guide patient expectations.

Elevated hip adduction angles and abduction moments in the gait of adolescents with recurrent patellar dislocation.
Impaired hip kinematics and kinetics may incite patellar instability. This study tested the hypothesis that hip adduction and internal rotation angles during gait are higher in adolescents with recurrent patellar dislocations compared to healthy controls. ⋯ Elevated hip adduction angles and higher hip abduction moments in gait of adolescents with recurrent patellar dislocation may indicate an impaired function of hip abductors that contributes to patellar instability.

The effect of weather and temporal factors on emergency hand trauma consultations.
Fluctuations in the numbers of patient consultations in hand trauma emergency units are challenging in terms of both scheduling and the provision of sufficient resources. Trauma consultations in general are affected by both temporal and meteorological variables. As the genesis and epidemiology of hand trauma have their own characteristics, this study aimed to identify the influence of temporal and meteorological factors on hand trauma consultations. ⋯ Hand trauma consultations increased with increasing temperatures, duration of sunshine, and decreasing humidity. Peak admissions were seen on Fridays and Saturdays. These findings can assist in predicting days with peak admissions to allocate resources appropriately.
