Increased lesion depth, higher body mass index and older age are risk factors for osteoarthritis during long-term follow-up in patients with osteochondritis dissecans of the knee.
To report on the long-term prognosis of osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) patients regarding radiological and patient-reported outcomes and to analyze possible risk factors. ⋯ IV.

Postoperative fever: differences between elective vs. traumatic hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty.
It is unclear whether there is a difference in the incidence of postoperative fever (POF) between hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty. The influence of a trauma setting has not been investigated. ⋯ POF ≥ 38.5 °C was more frequent in traumatic THA compared to elective THA. A trend of difference between POF rates between the different joint areas was statistically insignificant after separating elective and traumatic cases. The risk of developing an early periprosthetic joint infection was not increased in POF. A fever-related diagnostic workup was rarely helpful in the absence of clinical symptoms.

Pedobarographic evaluation of five commonly used orthoses for the lower extremity.
Orthoses are designed to achieve immobilization or off-loading of certain regions of the foot. Yet, their off-loading capacity for the specific regions has not yet been studied. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the plantar pressure distribution of five commonly applied orthoses for foot and ankle in a healthy population. ⋯ This is the first study to investigate the specific off-loading capacities of different orthoses for specific foot regions in a healthy collective. The knowledge of absolute and relative load shifts for the different orthoses is of fundamental interest for targeted clinical decision-making of physicians.

The effect of losartan on range of motion and rates of manipulation in total knee arthroplasty: a retrospective matched cohort study.
Arthrofibrosis remains a common cause of patient dissatisfaction and reoperation after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Losartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) with inhibitory effects on transforming growth factor beta, previously implicated in tissue repair induced fibrosis, and has been studied to prevent stiffness following hip arthroscopy. This study aimed to evaluate pre- and postoperative range of motion (ROM) and the incidence of manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) following primary TKA in patients taking Losartan preoperatively for hypertension. ⋯ Retrospective cohort study.

The pre-diseased coronal alignment can be predicted from conventional radiographs taken of the varus arthritic knee.
The concept of restoring the constitutional, pre-diseased alignment has gained lots of interest among knee surgeons. Previous attempts to use the contralateral limb to bridge the gap between the arthritic and the constitutional alignment were unsuccessful. We investigated the usability of a mathematical formula to predict the constitutional (pre-diseased) coronal alignment once arthritis has occurred. It is our hypothesis that by using the KL grade, CPAK classification and four radiographic measurements of the arthritic knee, the pre-diseased coronal alignment could be predicted. ⋯ Using the KL grade, CPAK classification and four radiographic measurements of the arthritic knee, the pre-diseased coronal alignment can be predicted in 80% of the varus knees with an accuracy of ≤ 0.5°. The predicted HKA (HKAPRED) can be very useful in the current and future clinical practice.
