Development of application and surgical technique of total knee arthroplasties: a systematic comparative analysis using worldwide registers.
The aim was to compare total knee arthroplasty (TKA) between countries with regard to epidemiologic data and surgical technique by the use of worldwide registers and compare findings with a previous report after one decade. ⋯ Comparison of arthroplasty registers revealed large differences regarding the annual number of primary TKAs per inhabitant as well as primary TKA procedure types with an increase of annual implantations, decrease of relative number of revisions, and a decrease of the use of cemented systems over the period of one decade.

Age-based comparison of meniscal dimensions between an asymptomatic complete discoid lateral meniscus and normal meniscus: MRI evaluation.
This study aimed to evaluate the meniscal size of asymptomatic discoid lateral meniscus (DLM) and compare it with that of normal lateral meniscus (LM) and to compare changes in meniscal dimensions with age among patients with asymptomatic DLM and those with normal LM using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ⋯ III: Retrospective comparative study.

Surgical treatment options for acromioclavicular joint separations are varied. Frequently, suspension devices (SD) are inserted for stabilization under arthroscopic view. This study investigates the feasibility and accuracy of three-dimensional (3D) digital-volume-tomography (DVT) C-arm navigated implantation with regard to the general trend toward increasingly minimally invasive procedures. ⋯ Intraoperative 3D DVT imaging of the shoulder joint using a mobile isocentric C-arm in the usual parasagittal position to the patient is possible. Likewise, DVT navigated SD implantation at the AC joint in CC and AC direction on a synthetic shoulder model. By combining both methods, the application in vivo could be possible. Further clinical studies on feasibility and comparison with established methods should be performed.

Radiographic evaluation of radial flexion osteotomy effect on static scapholunate instability: a preliminary cadaveric study.
The optimal treatment of chronic scapholunate instability has yet to be established. Scapholunate ligament grafts are still far from being the ideal solution. We conducted an experimental study to evaluate whether flexion-opening wedge osteotomy of the distal radius improves misalignment and avoids rotatory subluxation of the scaphoid in a cadaveric model of static scapholunate dissociative instability. ⋯ Flexion-addition osteotomy of the distal radius appears to improve carpal alignment parameters in a cadaveric model of static scapholunate instability, achieving similar values to those obtained before instability.

Cortical bone thickness on preoperative CT scans as predictor of bone quality in distal femur fractures: a retrospective study in Caucasians.
Distal femur fractures (DFF) are rare, but associated with high complication rates and mortality, particularly in patients with osteoporosis. To improve preoperative assessment, we analyzed if cortical bone thickness on CT and AP radiographs is associated with clinical parameters of bone quality. ⋯ Our results showed that cortical thickness of the distal femur correlates with clinical parameters of bone quality and is therefore an excellent tool for assessing what surgical care should be provided. Interestingly, our findings indicate that cortical thickness on CT is more strongly correlated with clinical data than AP radiograph measurements.
