Spontaneous healing of acute ACL ruptures: rate, prognostic factors and short-term outcome.
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is considered the first line treatment in ACL rupture. However, some patients return to high intensity sport activities and show a normal knee function without ACL reconstruction. Therefore, aim of this study was to evaluate the rate and prognostic factors of spontaneous healing in patients with ACL rupture and the short-term functional outcome. ⋯ Spontaneous healing of a ruptured ACL happened in 14% of the patients. Especially in low-demand patients with femoral single bundle lesions without increased posterior tibial slope delayed ACL surgery should be considered to await the possibility for potential spontaneous ACL healing.

Change in 1-year mortality after hip fracture surgery over the last decade in a European population.
There are scarce data on the mortality after hip fracture surgery for patients treated in the most recent years. The objective of this study was to analyze whether the overall initiatives introduced over the last decade for elderly patients with hip fractures had a positive impact on the 1-year mortality. ⋯ The important evolution achieved in the last decade for the management of patients with hip fracture surgery has led to a significant decline in 1-year mortality, but the 1-year mortality remains significantly higher compared to the general population of similar age and gender.

Hybrid fixation of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty shows equivalent short-term implant survivorship and clinical scores compared to standard fixation techniques.
There is a paucity of data regarding hybrid-fixated unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA), and no study directly compared all three available fixation techniques (cementless, cemented, and hybrid). The hypothesis was that hybrid fixation might have a lower incidence of radiolucent lines (RLL) than cemented UKA, with equivalent outcomes to uncemented UKA. ⋯ III.

Increased lesion depth, higher body mass index and older age are risk factors for osteoarthritis during long-term follow-up in patients with osteochondritis dissecans of the knee.
To report on the long-term prognosis of osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) patients regarding radiological and patient-reported outcomes and to analyze possible risk factors. ⋯ IV.

Postoperative fever: differences between elective vs. traumatic hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty.
It is unclear whether there is a difference in the incidence of postoperative fever (POF) between hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty. The influence of a trauma setting has not been investigated. ⋯ POF ≥ 38.5 °C was more frequent in traumatic THA compared to elective THA. A trend of difference between POF rates between the different joint areas was statistically insignificant after separating elective and traumatic cases. The risk of developing an early periprosthetic joint infection was not increased in POF. A fever-related diagnostic workup was rarely helpful in the absence of clinical symptoms.
