Review Meta AnalysisIndications for surgical fixation of low-energy pelvic ring fractures in elderly: a systematic review.
There are no generally accepted criteria for when and how to fixate osteoporotic pelvic ring fractures in elderly. This systemic review aims to summarize the currently available literature regarding the indications and methods for surgical fixation of fragility fractures of the pelvic ring in elderly patients after low-energy trauma. ⋯ Fixation of low-energy pelvic ring fractures in elderly is commonly performed after a period of conservative treatment, with persistent pain as the most frequent indication for fixation. Fracture classification based on stability seems to be of secondary importance. Timing for surgical fixation of the pelvic ring fracture in elderly patients remains diverse. Large well-designed comparative prospective studies and randomized controlled trials are needed to provide clearly substantiated guidelines.

Use of a novel imageless navigation system reduced fluoroscopy exposure and improved acetabular positioning in anterior approach total hip arthroplasty: a case-control study.
Direct anterior approach (DAA) for total hip arthroplasty (THA) frequently utilizes fluoroscopy. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of using a novel, imageless THA navigation system on radiation exposure and acetabular cup placement consistency. ⋯ Use of a novel imageless navigation system for DAA THA significantly reduced fluoroscopic radiation exposure and improved consistency in acetabular cup placement.

Randomized Controlled TrialRisk prediction models incorporating institutional case volume for mortality after hip fracture surgery in the elderly.
While higher institutional case volume is associated with better postoperative outcomes in various types of surgery, institutional case volume has been rarely included in risk prediction models for surgical patients. This study aimed to develop and validate the predictive models incorporating institutional case volume for predicting in-hospital mortality and 1-year mortality after hip fracture surgery in the elderly. ⋯ The new institutional case volume incorporated scoring system may help to predict in-hospital mortality and 1-year mortality after hip fracture surgery in the elderly population.

ReviewRisk analysis of periprosthetic knee joint infection (PJI) in total knee arthroplasty after preoperative corticosteroid injection: a systematic review : A study performed by the Early-Osteoarthritis group of ESSKA-European Knee Associates section.
Intra-articular corticosteroid injection is widely used for symptomatic relief of knee osteoarthritis. However, if pain is not improved which consequences a total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there is a potential risk of post-operative periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The aim of this study is to investigate whether the use of preoperative intra-articular corticosteroid injection increases the risk of PJI and to investigate a time frame in which the risk of subsequent infection is significantly increased. ⋯ IV.
