Autologous replacement of the head of the radius-proximal fibula versus second metatarsal base: an anatomic feasibility study.
This study investigated the anatomic feasibility of a new surgical therapy option for radial head arthrosis using an autologous vascularized bone graft of the second metatarsal and proximal fibula to recreate the proximal radiohumeral joint. ⋯ Level IV, anatomic study.

Radiographic and clinical outcome of tibial plateau fractures treated with bone allograft.
To determine the clinical outcome of patients who had been treated with bone allografts during open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of tibial head fractures. ⋯ Based on WOMAC scores, LEFS, ambulatory status, and quality of life findings, it can be concluded that following tibial head ORIF with allograft bone patients has promising results.

Operative versus conservative treatment of acute Achilles tendon ruptures: preliminary results of clinical outcome, kinematic MRI and contrast-enhanced ultrasound.
There is no uniform consensus on the gold standard therapy for acute Achilles tendon rupture. The aim of this pilot study was to compare operative and conservative treatment regarding imaging findings and clinical outcome. ⋯ Both, conservative and surgical treatment showed comparable outcomes in our preliminary results and may suggest non-inferiority of a conservative approach.

Incidence and treatment of intracapsular femoral neck fractures in Germany.
Intracapsular femoral neck fractures are one of the most common fractures in Germany. Nevertheless, the epidemiology and treatment modalities are not described comprehensively. For this reason, this study highlights the epidemiology of femoral neck fractures in different age groups and summarizes treatment strategies within the period from 2009 to 2019 based on nationwide data. ⋯ The incidence of intracapsular femoral neck fractures in Germany has been increasing continuously within the last decade. In particular, patients over 80 years suffered predominantly from this type of fracture. The majority was treated with a joint replacement procedure, mainly cemented hemiarthroplasty.

Preemptive multimodal analgesia and post-operative pain outcomes in total hip and total knee arthroplasty.
Use of multimodal analgesia (MMA) prior to orthopedic surgery has been adopted by many practitioners as a strategy to minimize use of opioid medications. The purpose of this investigation was to quantify the effect of a preemptive three-drug regimen (acetaminophen, celecoxib, and gabapentin) in terms of post-operative opioid consumption and pain control in the field of total joint arthroplasty. ⋯ The receipt of preemptive acetaminophen, celecoxib, and gabapentin 30-60 min prior to total joint arthroplasty demonstrated modest reductions in opioid requirements post-operatively. Patients receiving preemptive MMA reported lower pain scores throughout nearly every time interval during their admission after surgery. Further investigations are warranted regarding optimal preoperative medication therapies to promote adequate post-operative pain control-and ultimately diminished opioid consumption-in the setting of total joint arthroplasty.
