Patients with anteromedial osteoarthritis achieve the greatest improvement in patient reported outcome after total knee arthroplasty.
The osteoarthritic (OA) disease pattern of the knee is one of the determinants for choice of arthroplasty concept when knee replacement is indicated, but whether the disease pattern has a direct effect on postoperative outcome has not previously been investigated. The aim was to investigate if different OA disease patterns have an effect on postoperative outcome after receiving total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Radiation exposure in the treatment of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures.
To determine the factors that influence radiation exposure during repair of supracondylar humerus fractures. ⋯ We found no significant difference in direct radiation exposure or fluoroscopy time when comparing biplanar to uniplanar C-arm use, resident participation, preoperative neurovascular compromise, or for comorbid ipsilateral fractures. Both outcomes increased significantly as fracture type increased from II to III and as the number of pins used during CRPP increased. Both outcomes were significantly different between the surgeons performing CRPP.

Case ReportsIntrathoracic shoulder dislocation causing rupture of the right main bronchus.
An intrathoracic shoulder dislocation is a rare injury, usually the result of high-energy trauma [Hawkes et al. in Am J Orthop 43(4):E74-E78, 2014; Tsai et al. in Ann Thorac Cardiovasc Surg 20:592-594, 2014, in Rupprecht et al. Bull Emerg Trauma 5(3):212-214, 2017; Abellan et al. J Orthop Surg (Hong Kong)18(2):254-257, 2010]. ⋯ Following a literature review, it appears that no cases have been reported of an intrathoracic shoulder dislocation associated with a rupture of the ipsilateral main bronchus. We present a case of a rupture of the right main bronchus that occurred due to high-energy impact and an associated intrathoracic right-shoulder fracture dislocation. Computed tomography identified diastasis of the ipsilateral first intercostal space, humeral head indentation in the hilum of the lung, and a pneumoarthrogram of the right glenohumeral joint.

Unicondylar vs. total knee arthroplasty in medial osteoarthritis: a retrospective analysis of registry data and functional outcome.
It was the aim of our study to compare the functional outcome (WOMAC score, range of motion) achieved with unicondylar knee arthroplasty (UKA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). It was hypothesized that UKA and TKA would differ with regard to the WOMAC function scale (hypothesis 1) and the WOMAC total scale (hypothesis 2). It was assumed that the groups would differ with respect to changes in range of motion (ROM) over time (hypothesis 3). ⋯ On the basis of our findings, it is concluded that whether knee osteoarthritis is treated with either medial UKA or TKA has no influence on the WOMAC total score or any of the WOMAC subscales. It has no effect on early or late ROM gain.
