Modified suture-bridge technique for tibial avulsion fractures of the posterior cruciate ligament: a biomechanical comparison.
Displaced tibial posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fractures require surgical fixation in order to provide an adequate bone healing and to avoid a loss of posterior stability. The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties of a recently established modified suture bridge technique to a well-established transtibial pullout technique. It was hypothesized that the suture bridge technique shows lower elongation and higher load to failure force compared to a transtibial pullout fixation. ⋯ The suture bridge technique provides a significant lower construct elongation during cyclic loading. But postoperative rehabilitation must respect the low construct strength of both techniques because both fixation techniques did not show a sufficient fixation strength to allow for a more aggressive rehabilitation.

The anatomical properties of the indirect head of the rectus femoris tendon: a cadaveric study with clinical significance for labral reconstruction surgery.
Acetabular labral tear is a common pathology. In some clinical situations, primary labral repair may not be possible and labral reconstruction is indicated. ⋯ The IHRF tendon is in an ideal location for harvesting and contains the appropriate thickness, length and triangular architecture to serve as a safe and local graft source for acetabular labral reconstruction surgery.

Regional differences between the US, Scandinavia, and South Korea in patient demographics and patient-reported outcomes for primary total knee arthroplasty.
Differences in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patient demographics and clinical outcomes may exist between international regions, yet research is limited. The aim of this study was, therefore, to compare TKA patient demographics and patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) scores between the US, Scandinavia, and South Korea. ⋯ Level III.

The efficacy of an intramedullary nitinol implant in the correction of claw toe or hammertoe deformities.
A multitude of procedures has been described in the literature for the treatment of lesser toe deformities and there is currently no general consensus on the optimal method of fixation. The aim of this study is to assess the clinical and radiological outcomes of an intramedullary nitinol implant for the correction of lesser toe deformities, and to determine if the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint and metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint are modified during patient follow-up after correction of the PIP joint. ⋯ The reduction of the PIP joint using an intramedullary nitinol implant is a good option in lesser toe deformities, with few complications and a high rate of arthrodesis. Moreover, the PIP joint reduction affects both the MTP and DIP joints.

Biomechanical evaluation of suture buttons versus cortical screws in the Latarjet-Bristow procedure: a fresh-frozen cadavers study.
A commonly used method of fixation of the transferred coracoid in the traditional Latarjet-Bristow procedure (open or arthroscopic) is by two bicortical screws. Although mechanically effective, screw fixation is also a major source of hardware and neurologic complications. This study aimed to compare the biomechanical performances of traditional metal screws and endobuttons as fixators of the Latarjet-Bristow procedure. ⋯ A single endobutton fixation appears to be biomechanically comparable to screw fixation in the Latarjet-Bristow procedure and provides a lower risk for graft fracture. Further studies with more numerous specimens are warranted to conclusively validate these findings.
