MRI to measure cervical sagittal parameters: a comparison with plain radiographs.
The inability to visualize the sternum tip and T1 vertebra on radiographs may decrease the accuracy of the measurements of cervical sagittal parameters. The object of this study is to investigate the value of MRI to measure cervical sagittal parameters and to compare the data of cervical sagittal parameters on radiographs and MR images. ⋯ Positional change may significantly influence most sagittal parameters. Supine MRI cannot substitute for upright cervical radiographs to measure most cervical sagittal parameters except for TIA in an asymptomatic population.

Isolated acetabular revision with femoral stem retention after bipolar hip arthroplasty.
In bipolar hemiarthroplasty, migration of the outer cup component into the acetabular cup, with evidence of severe osteolysis in the acetabulum, commonly occurs without loosening of the femoral component. The merits of retaining the stable femoral component in these cases have been debated. Our study aimed to determine whether revision of the acetabular component in isolation could be successfully performed. ⋯ Isolated acetabular revision can be reliably performed in cases of failed bipolar hemiarthroplasty with a well-fixed femoral component.

Does a third condyle TKA restore normal gait kinematics in varus knees? In vivo knee kinematic analysis.
Patients with knee osteoarthritis tend to modify spatial and temporal parameters during walking to reduce the pain. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is considered the gold standard treatment for end-stage knee osteoarthritis. However, reduced physical function of the knee is partly, but apparently not fully, remedied by surgery. The purpose of this study was to investigate the in vivo, three dimensional knee kinematics during gait at the patients with knee osteoarthritis and the influence of "third condyle" psoterior stabilized (PS) total knee arthroplasty on restoration of normal kinematics. ⋯ Following "third condyle" PS-TKA, patients had better clinical, spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters. Despite improvements, the knee kinematics during gait in TKA group differed from healthy control group. TKA group had a lower extension lower range of axial rotation and an increased tibial posterior displacement.

Tibial condylar valgus osteotomy (TCVO) for osteoarthritis of the knee: 5-year clinical and radiological results.
Tibial condylar valgus osteotomy (TCVO) is a type of opening-wedge high tibial osteotomy for advanced medial knee osteoarthritis (OA) with subluxated lateral joint. We report the concept, the current surgical technique with a locking plate, and the short-term clinical and radiological results of this procedure. ⋯ Improvements in pain and activities of daily living were observed by TCVO along with valgus correction of the lower extremity and stabilization of the femorotibial joint.

ReviewTowards standardised definitions of shoulder arthroplasty complications: a systematic review of terms and definitions.
A transparent, reliable and accurate reporting of complications is essential for an evidence-based evaluation of shoulder arthroplasty (SA). We systematically reviewed the literature for terms and definitions related to negative events associated with SA. ⋯ A clear standardised set of SA complication definitions is lacking. Few authors reported complications based on definitions mainly considering radiological criteria without clinical parameters. This review should initiate and support the development of a standardised SA complication core set.
