ReviewFactors influencing periprosthetic bone mineral density in total knee arthroplasty: a systematic review.
Following total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there is a significant decline in periprosthetic bone mineral density (BMD), potentially resulting in complications such as prosthetic loosening, periprosthetic fracture, and influencing the postoperative recovery. The objective of this study was to summarize the factors influencing periprosthetic BMD in TKA from existing studies. ⋯ Mobile-bearing prostheses, modular polyethylene design, short stems, cruciform stems, avoidance of bone cement, higher body mass index, titanium nitride coating, and a smaller medial peg distance could potentially benefit periprosthetic BMD. Comprehensive consideration of diverse factors influencing periprosthetic BMD before surgery and collaboration with post-operative drug therapy are essential.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudyComparative analysis of surgical treatment modalities for a popliteal pterygium: a meta-analysis.
Popliteal pterygium syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterized by orofacial, cutaneous, musculoskeletal, and genital anomalies. The popliteal pterygium (PP) affects ambulation due to severe knee flexion contracture and equinovarus deformities. Surgical treatment aims to correct these deformities while preserving limb sensibility. However, due to its rarity, surgical guidelines are lacking. ⋯ The management of PP demands a comprehensive approach, considering individual patient characteristics and treatment outcomes. While different surgical modalities offer distinct benefits, a classification or guideline to treat this deformity is still lacking. Further research is essential to validate findings, refine treatment approaches, and enhance the quality of life for individuals with PP.

Randomized Controlled TrialKnotless suture in revision total joint arthroplasty: a prospective randomized controlled trial.
The use of barbed sutures for wound closure in primary total joint arthroplasty (TJA) has been shown to be effective and safe. However, their effectiveness and safety in revision TJA procedures has not been thoroughly studied. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of using barbed suture closure in revision TJA setting. ⋯ I.

Comparative StudyA two-year comparison of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty mini-humeral tray and augmented mini-glenoid baseplate implants vs. standard implants.
Patients who undergo reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) are getting younger with greater function expectations. This retrospective, longitudinal study of prospectively collected data compared perceived shoulder function and strength, active shoulder mobility, radiographic evidence of scapular notching, and implant survival over the initial 2-years post-RTSA among patient groups who received either standard central fixation point liner and glenoid baseplate implants, or lower size profile mini-humeral tray with offset trunnion options and mini-augmented glenoid baseplate implants. ⋯ Retrospective comparative study.

Comparative StudyOutcomes following robotic assisted total knee arthroplasty compared to conventional total knee arthroplasty.
This study elaborates on previous research to compare length of stay, complication rates, and total cost between patients undergoing robotic assisted total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) and conventional total knee arthroplasty (cTKA). We hypothesized that patients undergoing rTKA would have reduced length of stay, lower complication rates, improved perioperative outcomes, and higher total healthcare costs than those undergoing cTKA. ⋯ This study supports our hypothesis that rTKA is associated with fewer complications, but higher average total cost than cTKA. Our study shows that rTKA can be safely performed in older and sicker patients. Future studies assessing the impacts of these findings on patient reported outcomes would provide further insight into the benefits of rTKA. Furthermore, identifying patient specific factors that place them at risk for increased complications with cTKA as opposed to rTKA could provide surgeons insight on the method of TKA that maximizes patient outcomes while minimizing healthcare cost.
