Cardiac interventions on total knee arthroplasty: a national inpatient sample-based analysis.
Comorbid cardiovascular diseases have been associated with poor outcomes in total knee arthroplasty (TKA); however, our understanding of TKA with prior cardiac treatment procedures has largely been undocumented. In this study, we examined TKA patients who had undergone different cardiac interventions that addressed their condition. The purpose was to characterize and compare outcomes for a growing patient population not yet analyzed. ⋯ Patients who have undergone cardiac intervention are generally at risk for adverse stays. Furthermore, risk factors and complications vary between the groups. Our analysis emphasizes the importance of individualized medical care and as a basis for electing and informing patients for TKA.

A significant proportion of patients remain dissatisfied following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) surgery. Reasons for this are unclear. Contemporary implants seek to mirror innate anatomy. Such innovations are necessarily subject to scrutiny to validate their use. The Zimmer-Biomet Persona® Personalized Knee system is such an anatomic TKA. This work seeks to establish medium term survival data and patient reported outcomes for this implant. ⋯ We demonstrate excellent medium term survival of the Persona TKA in this large cohort, coupled with improvements in patient reported outcomes, range of motion and patient satisfaction at one year which compare favourably to other implants.

Assessment of fatty infiltration of the hamstring muscles in chronic proximal hamstring ruptures and effect on clinical outcomes after surgical repair: a novel application of the Goutallier classification.
Increased time to surgery has been previously associated with poorer clinical outcomes after surgical treatment of proximal hamstring ruptures, though the etiology remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether degree of muscle atrophy, as assessed using the Goutallier classification system, is associated with worse outcomes following surgical treatment of chronic proximal hamstring ruptures. ⋯ The degree of atrophy was not found to be an independent predictor of clinical outcomes following repair of chronic proximal hamstring ruptures. Increasing age was significantly predictive of increased atrophy and poorer patient-reported outcomes.

Incidence and risk factors for shoulder stiffness after open and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
The aim of this study was to estimate the incidence of stiffness during the first 6 months after rotator cuff repair and to evaluate postoperative stiffness with respect to its risk factors and its influence on the outcome at 6 months postoperatively. ⋯ The incidence of postoperative shoulder stiffness following rotator cuff repair was substantial at 31% at 3 months, reducing to 20% by 6 months. Mini-open repair was associated with a lower 6-month stiffness incidence than arthroscopic repair, likely due to variations in rehabilitation protocols. However, the presence of stiffness at 6 months post-surgery did not significantly affect functional outcomes or pain levels.

Factors affecting operating room scheduling accuracy for primary and revision total hip arthroplasty: a retrospective study.
Optimizing operating room (OR) scheduling accuracy is important for OR efficiency, meeting patient expectations, and maximizing value for health systems. However, limited data exist on factors influencing the precision of Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) OR scheduling. This study aims to identify the factors influencing the accuracy of OR scheduling for THA. ⋯ This study highlights several critical patient, surgeon, and intraoperative factors influencing OR scheduling accuracy for THA. OR scheduling models should consider these factors to enhance OR efficiency.
