ReviewSymptomatic rib fracture nonunion: a systematic review of the literature.
Rib fractures commonly occur in trauma patients with varying presentations. Though the literature in recent years has moved toward favoring more early intervention of acute rib fractures, little has been reported on the matter of surgical fixation for symptomatic rib fracture nonunions. ⋯ Surgical stabilization of rib fracture nonunions appears to be an appropriate treatment alternative, and various techniques and approaches may be used with similar success. Further studies with higher level of evidence are recommended on the subject.

ReviewImpact of the medial displacement calcaneal osteotomy on foot biomechanics: a systematic literature review.
Progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD), formally known as "adult-acquired flatfoot deformity" (AAFFD), is a complex foot deformity consisting of multiple components. If surgery is required, joint-preserving procedures, such as a medial displacement calcaneal osteotomy (MDCO), are frequently performed. The aim of this systematic review is to provide a summary of the evidence on the impact of MDCO on foot biomechanics. ⋯ A thorough knowledge of how MDCO impacts foot function is key in properly understanding the postoperative effects of this commonly performed procedure. According to the evidence, MDCO impacts the function of the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon, the integrity of the medial longitudinal arch, hind- and midfoot joint pressures, and consequently specific gait pattern parameters.

ReviewWhat's important for recovery after a total knee replacement? A systematic review of mixed methods studies.
Understanding how patients perceive and prioritise various aspects of recovery following total knee replacement, including pain, function and return to activity, will help clinicians in pre-operative consultations by ensuring they effectively address patient concerns and managing their expectations. ⋯ Reducing pain, returning of activities and daily living and mobility are the three most frequently reported recovery domains for people after TKR. Clinicians should be aware of recovery themes, to ensure they are explored sufficiently when consenting for a TKR. Future research should aim to determine the relative importance of these attributes compared to each other. The influence of surgical technique guidance and surgeon's experience on the femoral head assembly in total hip arthroplasty.
The importance of the assembly procedure on the taper connection strength is evident. However, existent surgical technique guides frequently lack comprehensive and precise instructions in this regard. The aim of our experimental study was to evaluate the influence of the surgical technique guide on the femoral head assembly procedure in surgeons with differing levels of experience in total hip arthroplasty. ⋯ The present study demonstrated a high variation in the parameters of the femoral head assembly procedure. Consideration of the surgical technique guide was found to be a limited factor among participants with varying levels of experience in total hip arthroplasty. These findings underline the importance of sufficient preoperative training, to standardize the assembly procedure, including impaction force, angle, and use of instruments.
