Our aim was to evaluate the gap in osteoporosis treatment and the impact of osteoporosis treatment on subsequent fragility fractures. We found osteoporosis medication use lowered risk of subsequent fractures by 21% and that black race, higher CCI scores, dementia, and kidney diseases reduced the likelihood of osteoporosis medication use.

The association between socioeconomic status (SES) and hip fracture (HF) incidence was analyzed in France in 2008. In men and women, a decrease in HF incidence was observed as the social deprivation index increased. This result may be partly due to the protective effect of increasing body weight against HF.

We determine the effect of interleukin (IL)-17 neutralizing antibody on new bone regeneration. Anti-IL-17 antibody promoted new bone regeneration in cortical bone defect model by augmenting FOXO1 and ATF4 activity thereby decreasing oxidative stress. Our study demonstrates the bone healing and regeneration potential of neutralizing IL-17antibody in osteoporotic fractures.

Transient osteoporosis of the hip (TOH) is a temporary clinical condition of unknown etiology which usually resolves with conservative therapy though may be complicated by fracture or progression to avascular necrosis (AVN). TOH may be slightly more prevalent in men but when it occurs in women, it is most often seen in the latter part of pregnancy. Though fracture is a rare complication of TOH when it occurs, it is most often associated with TOH occurring in pregnancy. ⋯ Transient osteoporosis of the hip, which often has no known etiology, usually resolves with conservative therapy but may predispose the patient to fracture or avascular necrosis. Diagnostic method of choice is magnetic resonance imaging. Bisphosphonates, calcitonin, or teriparatide are reported as a useful approach to reduce duration of recovery.

The relevance of sarcopenia and sarcopenic Obesity (SO) is rising in our aging societies. Applying recognized definitions to 965 community-dwelling Bavarian men 70 years+ resulted in a prevalence for sarcopenia between 3.7 and 4.9 and between 2.1 and 4.1% for SO. Despite this high consistency, the overlap between the definitions/approaches was <50%.
