This study compared hip fracture rates and health outcomes of older people living in residential aged care facilities (RACFs) to the community. The RACF resident age-standardised hospitalisation rate was five times higher than the community rate and declining. RACF residents experience overall worse health outcomes and survival post-hip fracture.

Periprosthetic fractures after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have devastating consequences. Osteoporosis increases periprosthetic fracture risk, but distal femur bone mineral density (BMD) is not measured post-TKA. ⋯ BMD measurement reproducibility was good. Standardized DXA regions of interest are proposed.

The long-term impact of hormone therapy for breast cancer on risk of osteoporosis and the extent to which bone screening recommendations are implemented in daily practice remain unknown. We found that the aromatase inhibitor-induced risk of osteoporosis did not continue in the off-treatment follow-up. Adherence to screening recommendations was suboptimal.

There is ongoing effort to discharge patients early after hip fracture surgery to reduce the medical and economic burden. We tried to find whether there is any related side effect, and discovered that early discharge, especially before 10 days after surgery, is associated with higher mortality.

The effects of teriparatide on acceleration of bone healing following atypical femoral fracture: comparison between daily and weekly administration.
We compared the effectiveness of promoting bone healing between two teriparatide preparations for atypical femoral fracture (AFF). A total of 45 AFFs were included in this study, and we compared the duration of bone union. Teriparatide administered by daily injection enhanced bone union more than weekly administration in complete AFFs.
