Comparative StudyPericardial window used in the diagnosis of cardiac injury.
The purpose of the present study is to analyze the results of subxiphoid pericardial window (SPW) and transdiaphragmatic pericardial window (TDP) procedures comparing the two techniques. ⋯ Both techniques presented an equally great result, with high sensitivity and specificity. Both surgical techniques must be carefully done to avoid false positive results.

Burn wound angiogenesis is increased by exogenously administered recombinant leptin in rats.
Leptin is a potent direct angiogenic factor that stimulates endothelial cell migration and activation in vitro and angiogenesis in vivo. In addition, leptin has been discussed to play an important role in angiogenesis, as it promotes the formation of new blood vessels. ⋯ Exogenous administration of recombinant leptin increases early tissue angiogenesis in the burn wound level of an experimental animal model.

Comparative StudyIndirect calorimetry can be used to measure cardiac output in septic patients?
The aim of this study was to compare two different cardiac output (CO) monitoring systems based on the thermodilution principle (Thermo-CO) and indirect calorimetry (Fick mixed-CO) in septic patients. ⋯ We observed that the agreement between the two methods was satisfactory on the basis of the decisions made for treatment. Indirect calorimetry is useful to measure CO in patients with septic shock.

Comparative StudyComparative study between target-controlled-infusion and continuous-infusion anesthesia in dogs treated with methotrimeprazine and treated with propofol and remifentanil.
To compare two propofol infusion techniques in bitches subjected to ovary histerectomy by estimating the efficiency of the propofol target-dose, evaluating the cardiorespiratory and hemogasimetric attributes, and the bispectral scale index (BIS) as well as the recovery period characteristics. ⋯ Dosis used in both techniques, after methotrimeprazine pre-treatment and combined to the opioid, were efficient for the surgery. The target-controlled anesthesia required a smaller anesthetic consumption (propofol) with faster recovery periods.

Influence of stimulus frequency on blockade induced by pancuronium and rocuronium: study on rats phrenic nerve-diaphragm preparation.
To evaluate the influence of two stimulation frequencies on the installation of neuromuscular blockade produced by pancuronium and rocuronium on the rat diaphragm. ⋯ The frequency of stimulation interferes significantly with the installation of neuromuscular blockade produced by pancuronium and rocuronium, since the reduction in amplitude of the rat diaphragm response was greater for 1 Hz frequencies, at all periods studied.
