Comparative StudyMRI of the thorax during whole-body MRI: evaluation of different MR sequences and comparison to thoracic multidetector computed tomography (MDCT).
To evaluate the accuracy of four MR sequences used as part of a whole-body MRI protocol to detect pulmonary lesions in cancer patients. ⋯ Pulmonary MRI is feasible as part of a whole-body MRI protocol. In our study, STIR images achieved high accuracy compared to chest MDCT for pulmonary lesions of 3 mm in size or larger.

Comparative StudyComparison of parallel acquisition techniques generalized autocalibrating partially parallel acquisitions (GRAPPA) and modified sensitivity encoding (mSENSE) in functional MRI (fMRI) at 3T.
To evaluate the parallel acquisition techniques, generalized autocalibrating partially parallel acquisitions (GRAPPA) and modified sensitivity encoding (mSENSE), and determine imaging parameters maximizing sensitivity toward functional activation at 3T. ⋯ At 3T and a reduction factor of 2, parallel imaging can be used with only little penalty with regard to sensitivity. With our implementation and coil setup the performance of GRAPPA was clearly superior to mSENSE. Thus, it seems advisable to pay special attention to the employed parallel imaging method and its implementation.

Comparative StudyAssessment of left ventricular volumes and mass with fast 3D cine steady-state free precession k-t space broad-use linear acquisition speed-up technique (k-t BLAST).
To compare left ventricular (LV) volume and mass assessment using two-dimensional (2D) cine steady-state free precession (SSFP) and k-t space broad-use linear acquisition speed-up technique (k-t BLAST) accelerated 3D magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ⋯ k-t BLAST-accelerated 3D sequences allow accurate assessment of LV volumes and mass compared to 2D cine SSFP. This method may reduce costs and increase patient comfort due to shortened data acquisition time and reduced number of breathholds.

Comparative StudyAccuracy of T1 measurement with 3-D Look-Locker technique for dGEMRIC.
To validate the accuracy of T1 measurement by three-dimensional Look-Locker method (3D LL) for delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) of human subjects with and without osteoarthritis (OA), as compared with two-dimensional inversion recovery fast spin-echo (2D IR-FSE) technique. ⋯ The 3D LL sequence provides accurate T1 estimates of articular cartilage with advantages of entire joint coverage, shorter acquisition time, and a wide range of inversion times sampled within a single acquisition.

To determine differences in diffusion measurements in white matter (WM) and gray matter (GM) regions of the rat cervical, thoracic, and cauda equina spinal cord using in vivo diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) with a 9.4T MR scanner. ⋯ In vivo DTI of the rat spinal cord at 9.4T appears sensitive to the architecture of neural structures in the rat spinal cord and may be a useful tool in studying trauma and pathologies in the spinal cord.
