Subcortical gray matter segmentation and voxel-based analysis using transverse relaxation and quantitative susceptibility mapping with application to multiple sclerosis.
To investigate subcortical gray matter segmentation using transverse relaxation rate (R2 *) and quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) and apply it to voxel-based analysis in multiple sclerosis (MS). ⋯ Automatic segmentation of iron-rich deep gray matter can be improved by incorporating QSM. Voxel-based evaluation yielded increased R2 * and QSM in MS subjects in all four nuclei studied with R2 *, benefiting the most from localized analysis over whole-structure measures.

Age-dependency of glycosaminoglycan content in lumbar discs: A 3t gagcEST study.
To analyze age-dependency of glycosaminoglycan content using gagCEST (glycosaminoglycan chemical exchange saturation transfer) imaging in lumbar intervertebral discs of healthy volunteers. ⋯ We show a decreased gagCEST effect likely corresponding to decreasing glycosaminoglycans with aging. Hence, age-matched analysis of gagCEST imaging may be necessary in future studies.

Semi-automated hippocampal segmentation in people with cognitive impairment using an age appropriate template for registration.
To evaluate a new semi-automated segmentation method for calculating hippocampal volumes and to compare results with standard software tools in a cohort of people with subjective memory complaints (SMC) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). ⋯ These results suggest that an age appropriate registration template might be a more accurate alternative to calculate hippocampal volumes when manual segmentation is not feasible.
