Hyperpolarized 3He apparent diffusion coefficient MRI of the lung: reproducibility and volume dependency in healthy volunteers and patients with emphysema.
To measure the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of hyperpolarized (HP) (3)He gas using diffusion weighted MRI in healthy volunteers and patients with emphysema and examine the reproducibility and volume dependency. ⋯ Mean ADC and SD of HP (3)He MRI is reproducible and discriminates well between healthy controls and patients with emphysema at the higher gas volume. This method is robust and may be useful to gain new insights into the pathophysiology and course of emphysema.

Comparative StudyA fast navigator-gated 3D sequence for delayed enhancement MRI of the myocardium: comparison with breathhold 2D imaging.
To develop a rapid navigator-gated three-dimensional (3DNAV) delayed-enhancement MRI (DE-MRI) sequence for myocardial viability assessment, and to evaluate its performance with breathhold two-dimensional (2DBH) DE-MRI sequence as the reference standard. ⋯ 3DNAV DE-MRI provides improved image quality and similar infarct detection in less scan time compared to the standard 2DBH DE-MRI.

Numerical and experimental study of a novel phase contrast magnetic resonance (PC-MR) imaging technique: sparse interleaved referencing PC-MR imaging.
To use numerical simulation and experimental approaches to introduce a novel phase contrast magnetic resonance (PC-MR) data processing technique termed Sparse Interleaved Referencing PC-MR, with potential to improve accuracy, temporal resolution, and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of PC-MR data. ⋯ Simulation and in vitro/in vivo results show that Sparse Interleaved Referencing PC-MR processed data in pulsatile and jet flow showed higher accuracy, better peak velocity representation, and improved SNR compared with the data processed using the conventional PC-MR method.

Evaluating local hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence post-transcatheter arterial chemoembolization: is diffusion-weighted MRI reliable as an indicator?
To evaluate the detectability of local hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) by diffusion-weighted MR imaging in correlation with those of gadolinium-enhanced MR imaging. ⋯ Diffusion-weighted MR imaging was not found to be a reliable predictor of local HCC recurrence after TACE as compared with gadolinium-enhanced MR imaging.

Comparative StudyMRI of the thorax during whole-body MRI: evaluation of different MR sequences and comparison to thoracic multidetector computed tomography (MDCT).
To evaluate the accuracy of four MR sequences used as part of a whole-body MRI protocol to detect pulmonary lesions in cancer patients. ⋯ Pulmonary MRI is feasible as part of a whole-body MRI protocol. In our study, STIR images achieved high accuracy compared to chest MDCT for pulmonary lesions of 3 mm in size or larger.
