Comparative StudyWater-saturated three-dimensional balanced steady-state free precession for fast abdominal fat quantification.
To compare the performance of a novel water-saturated b-SSFP sequence with that of a conventional T1-weighted turbo spin echo (T1W TSE) sequence for abdominal fat quantification. ⋯ The proposed three-dimensional water-saturated b-SSFP sequence can generate high quality fat-only abdominal images with high CNR and SNR in shorter scan duration than the conventional T1W TSE approach. As images generated by this sequence suffer from no flow artifacts, and are less sensitive to bulk, respiratory, and bowel motion, three-dimensional water-saturated b-SSFP is a faster and more robust method for improving abdominal fat quantification using MRI.

An automated algorithm for combining multivoxel MRS data acquired with phased-array coils.
To develop a fully automated algorithm for combining multivoxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) data acquired with a phased-array coil. ⋯ The method described in this report provides a means for employing phased-array coils in MRS with the same advantages as those found in MRI.

Comparative StudyComparison of tumor blood perfusion assessed by dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI with tumor blood supply assessed by invasive imaging.
To evaluate the potential of Gd-DTPA-based dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) for providing high-resolution tumor blood perfusion images. ⋯ E . F images of xenografted tumors reflect blood perfusion. This implies that E . F may be a useful parameter for improving cancer diagnostics and individualizing cancer treatment. This possibility deserves to be investigated thoroughly in clinical studies.

Comparative StudyDisparity of activation onset in sensory cortex from simultaneous auditory and visual stimulation: Differences between perfusion and blood oxygenation level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging.
To compare the temporal behaviors of perfusion and blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in the detection of timing differences between distinct brain areas, and determine potential latency differences between stimulus onset and measurable fMRI signal in sensory cortices. ⋯ The greater temporal variability between brain areas detected with BOLD could result from differences in the venous contributions to the signal. The results suggest that perfusion methods may provide more accurate timing information of neuronal activities than BOLD-based imaging.

Interstudy reproducibility of three-dimensional volume-selective fast spin echo magnetic resonance for quantifying carotid artery wall volume.
To assess the interstudy reproducibility of a three-dimensional volume-selective, fast spin echo (FSE) magnetic resonance technique for the assessment of carotid artery wall volume, which is a marker for total carotid plaque volume. ⋯ Volumetric analysis with CMR of carotid artery plaques using a three-dimensional volume-selective FSE is efficient with good interstudy reproducibility, and is well suited for longitudinal studies of progression of carotid atheroma with reasonable sample sizes.
