Comparative StudyMRI-determined liver proton density fat fraction, with MRS validation: Comparison of regions of interest sampling methods in patients with type 2 diabetes.
To assess the agreement between published magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based regions of interest (ROI) sampling methods using liver mean proton density fat fraction (PDFF) as the reference standard. ⋯ MRI-PDFF quantification methods should sample each liver segment in both lobes and include a total surface area equal or larger than 5 cm(2) to provide a close estimate of the liver mean PDFF.

Multicomponent T2 analysis of articular cartilage with synovial fluid partial volume correction.
To investigate the use of a three-pool model to account for the confounding effects of synovial fluid on multicomponent T2 analysis of articular cartilage using Multicomponent Driven Equilibrium Single Shot Observation of T1 and T2 (mcDESPOT). ⋯ The effects of partial volume averaging between superficial cartilage and synovial fluid may result in biased multicomponent T2 measurements that can be corrected using an mcDESPOT three-pool model containing a nonexchanging synovial fluid water pool.

Fully automatic analysis of the knee articular cartilage T1ρ relaxation time using voxel-based relaxometry.
To develop and compare with the classical region of interest (ROI)-based approach a fully automatic, local, and unbiased way of studying the knee T1ρ relaxation time by creating an atlas and using voxel-based relaxometry (VBR) in osteoarthritis (OA) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) subjects. ⋯ ROI-based results from atlas-based segmentation were consistent with classical ROI-based method (coefficient of variation [CV] = 3.83%). Voxel-based group analysis revealed local patterns that were overlooked by the ROI-based approach; eg, VBR showed posterior lateral femur and posterior lateral tibia significant T1ρ elevations in ACL-injured patients (sample mean z-score=9.7 and 10.3). Those elevations were overlooked by the classical ROI-based approach (sample mean z-score=1.87 and -1.73) CONCLUSION: VBR is a feasible and accurate tool for the local evaluation of the biochemical composition of knee articular cartilage. VBR is capable of detecting specific local patterns on T1ρ maps in OA and ACL subjects.

Age-independent myocardial infarct quantification by signal intensity percent infarct mapping in swine.
To test whether signal intensity percent infarct mapping (SI-PIM) accurately determines the size of myocardial infarct (MI) regardless of infarct age. ⋯ Our results indicate that the SI-PIM method can accurately determine MI volume regardless of the pathological stage of MI. Once tested, it may prove to be useful for the clinic.

Rates of safety incident reporting in MRI in a large academic medical center.
To describe our multiyear experience in incident reporting related to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in a large academic medical center. ⋯ MRI-related incident reports are relatively infrequent, occur at significantly higher rates in inpatients, and usually do not result in patient harm. Diagnostic test orders, adverse drug reactions, and medication/IV safety were the most frequent safety incidents.
