Comparative StudyQuantifying effect of combined oral contraceptive pill on functional ovarian reserve as measured by serum anti-Müllerian hormone and small antral follicle count using three-dimensional ultrasound.
Oral contraceptive pills suppress the hypothalomo-pituitary axis, which can affect the ultrasound and endocrine markers used to examine ovarian reserve. The objective of this study was to quantify the ultrasound and endocrine markers of functional ovarian reserve in women using a combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP) for more than a year. ⋯ Prolonged use of COCP suppressed pituitary gonadotropins and antral follicle development beyond 6 mm, but had no effect on levels of serum AMH and number of small antral follicles.

Inter- and intraobserver variability in three-dimensional ultrasound assessment of the endometrial-myometrial junction and factors affecting its visualization.
To assess the inter- and intraobserver variability of three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound assessment of the endometrial-myometrial junction (EMJ), and to assess demographic and physiological factors that affect the quality of its imaging. ⋯ Assessment of EMJ visualization has both good inter- and intraobserver variability in women with normal uteri. Parity and endometrial thickness have contrasting, statistically significant, effects on visualization of the EMJ.

Evaluation of the perianal muscular complex in the prenatal diagnosis of anorectal atresia in a high-risk population.
To investigate whether sonographic identification of the fetal perianal muscular complex (PAMC) is of value in the prenatal detection of anorectal atresia in a high-risk population. ⋯ In a high-risk population, the absence of PAMC seems to be a highly sensitive and specific sonographic marker for anorectal atresia. The role of routine sonographic identification of the PAMC at the second-trimester scan to screen for cases of isolated anal atresia remains to be determined.
