ReviewWhich factors are associated with trainees' confidence in performing obstetric and gynecological ultrasound examinations?
To explore the association between clinical training characteristics and trainees' level of confidence in performing ultrasound scans independently. ⋯ Clinical experience and time spent in specialized ultrasound units were predictors of trainees' confidence in performing ultrasonography independently. Discrepancies between trainees' confidence and their expected levels of performance raised concerns about the adequacy of current ultrasound training programs.

Reliable and valid assessment of ultrasound operator competence in obstetrics and gynecology.
To explore the reliability and validity of a recently developed instrument for assessment of ultrasound operator competence, the Objective Structured Assessment of Ultrasound Skills (OSAUS). ⋯ Ultrasound competence can be assessed in a reliable and valid way using the OSAUS scale. The pass/fail scores may be used to help determine when trainees are qualified for independent practice.
