Systolic myocardial velocity alterations in the growth-restricted fetus with cerebroplacental redistribution.
Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is associated with cerebroplacental redistribution (CPR), fetal stress and poor outcome, all of which may be related to dysfunction of the fetal myocardium. The aim of this study was to specifically assess myocardial function in IUGR fetuses with CPR in comparison with normal fetuses using color Doppler myocardial imaging (CDMI). ⋯ CDMI facilitates acquisition of fetal myocardial ventricular S'. The combination of IUGR and CPR is associated with a reduced left ventricular S', especially in those with reversed UA flow. In this subgroup a left S' below 1.6 cm/s seemed to predict mortality in the perinatal period.

Myocardial tissue Doppler assessment of diastolic function in the growth-restricted fetus.
Myocardial tissue Doppler (MTD) is a technique for the measurement of myocardial velocities in systole and diastole. This study evaluates the use of MTD in the assessment of cardiac diastolic function in fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) with placental insufficiency and in appropriate-for-gestational age (AGA) fetuses with hypertensive mothers. ⋯ Using MTD, the ratios between early and late diastolic myocardial velocities are higher in IUGR fetuses than in AGA fetuses at the IVS and the LV, regardless of the presence of maternal hypertension. MTD may be more sensitive than atrioventricular spectral Doppler for the detection of ventricular diastolic dysfunction in IUGR fetuses.

Transperineal ultrasound imaging in prolonged second stage of labor with occipitoanterior presenting fetuses: how well does the 'angle of progression' predict the mode of delivery?
To compare the angle of progression on transperineal ultrasound imaging between different modes of delivery in prolonged second stage of labor with occipitoanterior fetal position. ⋯ This is the first report to document a strong relationship between an objective ultrasound marker (angle of progression) and the mode of delivery following prolonged second stage of labor with occipitoanterior fetal position. A predictive model using this parameter would allow better decision making regarding operative delivery for obstructed labor.

Fetal crown-rump length and estimation of gestational age in an ethnic Chinese population.
To develop a sonographic dating formula based on fetal crown-rump length (CRL) in a Hong Kong Chinese population, quantify its systematic prediction error and compare its performance with established dating formulae. ⋯ We have derived a formula suitable for the dating of naturally conceived pregnancies between 6 and 15 weeks of gestation that has no systematic prediction error (the 95% CI of mean difference between predicted and menstrual age included zero), comparing favorably with established CRL dating formulae.

Role of three-dimensional power Doppler in the antenatal diagnosis of placenta accreta: comparison with gray-scale and color Doppler techniques.
To assess the role of three-dimensional (3D) power Doppler in the antenatal diagnosis of placenta accreta and compare its diagnostic performance with gray-scale and color Doppler ultrasonography. ⋯ 3D power Doppler may be useful as a complementary technique for the antenatal diagnosis or exclusion of placenta accreta.
