Infant neurodevelopment following fetal growth restriction: relationship with antepartum surveillance parameters.
To evaluate the relationship between fetal Doppler parameters, biophysical profile score (BPP) and neurodevelopmental delay at 2 years of corrected age in infants who had been growth-restricted in utero. ⋯ Although UA-REDV is an independent contributor to poor neurodevelopment in IUGR no such effect could be demonstrated for abnormal venous Doppler findings or BPP. Gestational age and birth weight remain the predominant factors for poor neurodevelopment in growth-restricted infants.

Prediction of pre-eclampsia by a combination of maternal history, uterine artery Doppler and mean arterial pressure.
To determine the value of combined screening for pre-eclampsia by maternal history, and mid-trimester uterine artery (UtA) Doppler imaging and maternal blood pressure. ⋯ The combination of maternal demographic characteristics, and UtA Doppler and maternal blood pressure measurements is an effective screening tool for the prediction of pre-eclampsia.

Multicenter StudyValue of prenatal magnetic resonance imaging in the prediction of postnatal outcome in fetuses with diaphragmatic hernia.
To investigate the potential value of antenatally determined total fetal lung volume (TFLV) by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the prediction of the postnatal survival in congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). ⋯ In the assessment of fetuses with CDH, MRI-based o/e TFLV is useful in the prediction of postnatal survival.

Case ReportsUltrasonographic visualization of balloon placement for uterine tamponade in massive primary postpartum hemorrhage.
This case report is the first documentation of ultrasonographic confirmation of positioning of a Sengstaken-Blakemore balloon catheter (SBEC) in the management of massive postpartum hemorrhage. The sonongraphic position, while incorrect according to conventional use of uterine balloon catheters, raises the possibility of an alternative mechanism of action of the balloon: not uterine cavity tamponade but hydrostatic pressure directly around the uterine arteries, a mechanism akin to mechanical uterine artery embolization or ligation. If this hypothesis is correct, it not only elucidates how balloon tamponade works but also challenges current thinking on how postpartum hemorrhage should be managed effectively. Future studies are required to corroborate this hypothesis and we believe that sonographic confirmation of balloon catheter location should be an integral part of uterine balloon tamponade in women with massive primary postpartum hemorrhage.
