Reference ranges for tissue Doppler measures of maternal systolic and diastolic left ventricular function.
Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) is an echocardiographic technique that evaluates longitudinal myocardial tissue velocities during left ventricular systolic and diastolic function, relatively independently of loading conditions. Limited data are available regarding maternal cardiac function using TDI. The aim of this study was to construct reference charts for TDI indices in normal pregnancy. ⋯ This study gives normal ranges for TDI indices in pregnancy. TDI demonstrated modified longitudinal systolic and diastolic function. Future studies will evaluate the potential of this technique in pregnancies complicated by hypertension and cardiac disease. Review Case ReportsPleural and pericardial effusion: a potential ultrasonographic marker for the prenatal differential diagnosis between congenital diaphragmatic eventration and congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
To determine whether or not the presence of pleural and/or pericardial effusion can be used prenatally as an ultrasonographic marker for the differential diagnosis between diaphragmatic eventration and diaphragmatic hernia. ⋯ The presence of pleural and/or pericardial effusion in patients with diaphragmatic defects should raise the possibility of a congenital diaphragmatic eventration. This information is clinically important for management and counseling because the prognosis and treatment for CDH and congenital diaphragmatic eventration are different. Frontomaxillary facial angle at 11+0 to 13+6 weeks' gestation-reproducibility of measurements.
To assess the intra- and interobserver reproducibility in the measurement of the frontomaxillary facial (FMF) angle at 11+0 to 13+6 weeks' gestation and to investigate the effect of deviations from the exact mid-sagittal view on these measurements. ⋯ The landmarks that define the mid-sagittal plane of the fetal face are the tip of the nose and the rectangular shaped maxilla. Measurement of the FMF angle is highly reproducible.

Case ReportsIntussusception: a rare cause of abdominal pain in pregnancy.
A 34-year-old woman presented at 19 weeks in her third pregnancy with abdominal pain and hyperemesis. This was her third admission during the pregnancy for similar complaints. A few days after admission an exacerbation in her pain was noted, in particular on eating or lying down, and a firm and mobile epigastric mass could be palpated separate from her uterus. ⋯ The presenting symptoms of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and constipation are common in pregnancy and the displacement of the bowel by the gravid uterus hampers examination. Intussusception is very rare in adults and generally it is associated with tumors. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult but possible with accurate imaging.
