Ultrasound determination of fetal sex can benefit decision-making regarding invasive prenatal testing in pregnancies at risk of sex-linked genetic abnormalities. The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of fetal sex determination by ultrasound at 12-14 weeks of gestation in a large cohort. ⋯ Prenatal gender assignment by ultrasound has a high accuracy rate at 12-14 weeks. These results indicate that invasive testing can probably be carried out in fetuses identified as males at this gestational age. However, in fetuses identified as female at a CRL of <62.6 mm, despite the relatively high 91.5% accuracy rate, the decision regarding invasive testing should be postponed until a higher CRL is achieved.

Review Case ReportsSpontaneous resolution of prenatally diagnosed dural sinus thrombosis: a case report.
Fetal thrombosis of the dural sinus is an extremely rare congenital cerebrovascular condition that is potentially fatal. We report a case of dural sinus thrombosis diagnosed by prenatal ultrasonography and fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the second trimester. The thrombosis showed partial resolution during pregnancy and resolved spontaneously after birth without neurological complications. This is the first report of spontaneous postnatal resolution, and may provide helpful information on the natural history and prenatal counseling of fetal thrombosis of the dural sinus.

Sonographic measurement of cervical length and fetal fibronectin testing in threatened preterm labor.
In women presenting with threatened preterm labor, both fetal fibronectin and sonographic measurement of cervical length have been shown to distinguish between true and false labor. The aim of this study was to determine whether the combination of both tests provides a better prediction than the individual tests alone. ⋯ In women with threatened preterm labor assessment of fetal fibronectin in cervicovaginal secretions does not improve the prediction of delivery within 7 days provided by the sonographic measurement of cervical length.

Comparative StudyNifedipine therapy for preterm labor: effects on placental, fetal cerebral and atrioventricular Doppler parameters in the first 48 hours.
To assess the effect of nifedipine tocolysis on Doppler parameters of the uterine, umbilical and fetal middle cerebral arteries and atrioventricular valves in the first 48 h of therapy. ⋯ Nifedipine maintenance tocolysis is associated with a significant decline in uterine artery and middle cerebral artery Doppler indices 24 h after the first dose. Fetal cardiac diastolic function is unaffected and the significant redistribution observed after 24 h is likely to be attributable to altered cerebral blood flow.

Case ReportsDiagnostic difficulties of pelvic splenosis: case report.
We report the case of a 38-year-old woman who presented with chronic lower abdominal pain. Her past medical history included a splenectomy due to abdominal trauma. ⋯ Approximately 100 cases of splenosis have been reported but only a minority of them have been published in the gynecological literature. Our case indicates that those involved in pelvic scanning (even of asymptomatic women) and/or treating those complaining of lower abdominal pain or presenting with pelvic tumors should be aware of splenosis as a possible diagnosis.
