Differential Effects of Left Ventricular Pacing Sites on Regional Contraction Patterns and Global Performance.
To define the differential effect of site-specific ventricular counterpacing efficacy during cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) to identify the most informative imaging views to quantify it. Cross-sectional and long-axis views commonly are used to assess left ventricular (LV) contractility. ⋯ LV functional analysis from only a cross-sectional plane may be insufficient to characterize improved LV contraction synchrony during multisite CRT.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialAccuracy of Continuous Cardiac Output Measurement with the LiDCOplus System During Intra-Aortic Counterpulsation After Cardiac Surgery.
To evaluate the effect of intra-aortic counterpulsation on precision, accuracy, and concordance of continuous pulse contour cardiac output determined using LiDCOplus (LiDCO Group, London). ⋯ Because of the LiDCOplus-specific algorithm in determining stroke volume from the arterial pulse waveform, which differs from other devices, accuracy and precision of continuous pulse contour cardiac output only are affected insignificantly by intra-aortic counterpulsation. The authors nevertheless caution that the device should be recalibrated after major hemodynamic alterations or otherwise inexplicable changes of the pulse contour cardiac output to improve trending.

Observational StudyPulmonary Bleeding During Right Ventricular Support After Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation.
Right heart failure still occurs in up to 20% of patients after implantation of a left ventricular assist device (LVAD). One treatment option for these patients is the implantation of a temporary right ventricular assist device (RVAD). Experimental data suggest that non-pulsatile perfusion of the lungs is associated with an increased rate of pulmonary hemorrhage. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of pulmonary bleeding complications in these patients. ⋯ The data presented in this study suggested that right ventricular support for more than 7 days and a blood flow greater than 4 L/min were associated with pulmonary bleeding complications. This should be taken into consideration when temporary right ventricular support after LVAD implantation is planned.

High Left Ventricular Filling Pressure on Doppler Echocardiography Is Associated with Graft Failure and Overall Mortality Following Kidney Transplantation.
Although E/e´ is prognostic of mortality in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESED), little is known about the prognostic implications of E/e´ following kidney transplant (KT). The objective of this study was to evaluate whether an elevated E/e´ is associated with graft function, postoperative hemodialysis, and overall mortality in end-stage renal disease patients following KT. ⋯ Preoperative E/e´ is a prognostic indicator of overall mortality in ESRD patients undergoing KT.
