Meta AnalysisAssociation Between Baseline Serum Ferritin and Short-term Outcome of Intracerebral Hemorrhage: A Meta-Analysis.
Intracerebral hemorrhage is a devastating disease. In recent years, the association of between baseline serum ferritin and prognosis of intracerebral hemorrhage is an interesting issue. Although some of the studies have shown that baseline serum ferritin can predict the prognosis of intracerebral hemorrhage, there is no clear evidence that baseline serum ferritin can be used as an independent predictor of intracerebral hemorrhage. ⋯ This meta-analysis showed that baseline serum ferritin level at admission may predict the short-term prognosis of patients with ICH, and may provide a new target for intracerebral hemorrhage therapy.

Review Meta AnalysisEfficacy and Safety of Citalopram for the Treatment of Poststroke Depression: A Meta-Analysis.
To objectively evaluate the efficacy and safety of citalopram versus other antidepressant drugs in poststroke depression (PSD) treatment. ⋯ This meta-analysis indicates that the efficacy of citalopram is similar to that of other SSRIs and SNRIs, but citalopram takes action faster than other SSRIs. The adverse effects of citalopram have no significant difference compared to other antidepressants and those adverse effects are less and mild.

Review Meta AnalysisEarly Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors for Recovery after Stroke: A Meta-Analysis and Trial Sequential Analysis.
Potential benefits and risks of early (≤30 days from stroke onset) selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) treatment for neurologic functional recovery after stroke are not fully understood. ⋯ The early SSRIs treatment reduces the defective neurologic function in patients undergoing rehabilitation after stroke.

Review Meta AnalysisPositive Effects of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy on Spasticity in Poststroke Patients: A Meta-Analysis.
Spasticity is a common and serious complication following a stroke, and many clinical research have been conducted to evaluate the effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) on muscle spasticity in poststroke patients. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effect on decreasing spasticity caused by a stroke immediately and 4 weeks after the application of shock wave therapy. ⋯ ESWT for the spasticity of patients after a stroke is effective, as measured by MAS grades. Moreover, no serious side effects were observed in any patients after shock wave therapy. Nevertheless, our current study with some limitations such as the limited sample size only provided limited quality of evidence; confirmation from a further systematic review or meta-analysis with large-scale, well-designed randomized control trials is required.

Review Meta AnalysisThe Association between Carotid Artery Atherosclerosis and Silent Brain Infarction: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Carotid atherosclerosis is responsible for ~20% of ischemic strokes, but it is unclear whether carotid disease is associated with the presence of downstream silent brain infarction (SBI). We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to study the relationship between SBI and 2 separate manifestations of carotid atherosclerosis, carotid intima-media thickening (IMT) and luminal stenosis. ⋯ Two forms of atherosclerotic disease, carotid IMT and stenosis, are both significantly associated with SBI. This review highlights a lack of consistent definitions for carotid disease measures and little evidence evaluating SBI prevalence downstream from carotid stenosis.
