Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) diagnosis by two-dimensional ultrasound (2DUS) can have poor inter-rater reliability. 3D ultrasound (3DUS) may be more reliably performed, particularly by novice users. We compared intra- and inter-rater reliability between expert and novice operators performing 2DUS and 3DUS for DDH. ⋯ • Novice/expert inter-rater reliability improved from poor with 2DUS to moderate/high with 3DUS. • Novice operators using 3DUS correctly classified 57/58 (98%) of infant hips. • DDH can be reliably assessed by novice operators using 3DUS.

Diagnosis of transition zone prostate cancer using T2-weighted (T2W) MRI: comparison of subjective features and quantitative shape analysis.
To assess T2-weighted (T2W) MRI to differentiate transition zone (TZ) prostate cancer (PCa) from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). ⋯ • Presence of a complete T2-weighted hypointense circumscribed rim accurately diagnoses BPH. • Round shape accurately diagnoses BPH and can be assessed quantitatively using circularity. • Lenticular shape accurately diagnoses TZ PCa and can be assessed quantitatively using convexity.

With the implementation of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in lower-risk patients, evaluation of blood flow characteristics and the effect of TAVR on aortic dilatation becomes of considerable interest. We employed 4D flow MRI in the ascending aorta of patients after TAVR to assess wall shear stress (WSS) and compare blood flow patterns with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) and age- and gender-matched controls. ⋯ • TAVR results in increased blood flow velocity and WSS in the ascending aorta. • Longitudinal assessment of aortic dilatation after TAVR is warranted in the era of potential TAVR in lower-risk patients. • Both TAVR and SAVR result in altered blood flow patterns in the ascending aorta when compared to age-matched controls.

To develop and validate a radiomics predictive model based on pre-treatment multiparameter magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features and clinical features to predict a pathological complete response (pCR) in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) after receiving neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT). ⋯ • Radiomics analysis of pre-CRT multiparameter MR images could predict pCR in patients with LARC. • Proposed radiomics signature from joint T2-w, ADC and cT1-w images showed better predictive performance than individual signatures. • Most of the clinical characteristics were unable to predict pCR.

We aimed to determine the timing for assessing birth status of the developing brain (i.e. brain maturity at birth) by exploring the postnatal age-related changes in neonatal brain white matter (WM). ⋯ • Brain white matter development within the first two postnatal weeks resembles a close-to-birth maturation. • Brain white matter development in the audio-visual, sensorimotor regions accelerates after two postnatal weeks. • Postnatal age-related effects should be considered in comparing preterm and term neonates.
