Assessing self-perception in patients with chronic low back pain: development of a back-specific body-perception questionnaire.
There is considerable interest in the role that disturbance of body-perception may play in long standing pain problems such as chronic low back pain (CLBP), both as a contributor to the clinical condition and as a potential target for treatment. In some chronic pain conditions body-perception has been investigated using self-report questionnaires. There is currently no questionnaire for assessing body-perception in people with CLBP. ⋯ Symptoms of body-perception distortion were endorsed by most CLBP patients, while these symptoms are very infrequent amongst healthy controls. Our results suggest the questionnaire has reasonable psychometric properties.

The prevalence of fibromyalgia among patients with cervical radiculopathy due to cervical disc herniation: a pilot study.
Cervical disc herniation (CDH) is the most common cause of cervical radiculopathy and could overlap with fibromyalgia (FM). ⋯ The prevalences of FM and widespread pain in patients with CDH were found as 11.5% and 78.8% respectively.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of the high-power pain threshold ultrasound technique in the elderly with latent myofascial trigger points: a double-blind randomized study.
The high-power pain threshold ultrasound (HPPTUS) technique has been introduced as a novel treatment method in patients with myofascial trigger points (MTrPs). The aim of the current study was to compare the therapeutic effects of HPPTUS with those of the conventional ultrasound technique in elderly patients with latent MTrPs on the upper trapezius muscles of at least 1 side. ⋯ The results indicate that the HPPTUS technique in same manner as treatment of active MTrPs is not superior to the conventional ultrasound technique in the treatment of the elderly patients with the latent MTrPs.

Randomized Controlled TrialHow effective is a modified exercise program on its own or with back school in chronic low back pain? A randomized-controlled clinical trial.
The aim of this trial is to search effectiveness of specifically adapted exercise programs on its own and with low back school on pain, disability, trunk and quadriceps muscle strength, walking performance, spinal mobility, quality of life (QOL), and depression in the patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). ⋯ Diagnostic study Level-I-I (prospective study).

Low back pain risk factors associated with persistence, recurrence and delayed presentation.
There is little knowledge in the literature on the role of time-related variables for the prognosis of acute and subacute low back pain (LBP). ⋯ Patients with current LBP waiting longer until seeking help in primary care have a more disadvantageous profile of occupational and psychological risk factors and lower resource levels. A similar but less pronounced pattern occurred in those with subacute LBP compared to those with acute LBP. Consideration of time characteristics of LBP may help to better understand LBP.
