To evaluate the safety and efficacy of ixabepilone as a new antimitotic chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of breast cancer. ⋯ Based on the clinical trials reviewed here and the current information available, ixabepilone is a welcome addition to the options available for the treatment of patients with metastatic breast cancer refractory to standard therapy.

To review the role of oxandrolone in pediatric patients with severe thermal burn injury. ⋯ The benefits of adjunct oxandrolone therapy in severely burned pediatric patients have been demonstrated in the acute postburn injury and long-term postburn rehabilitation periods. Close monitoring of liver function, sexual development, and growth pattern is recommended during oxandrolone treatment.

To report a case of erratic absorption, double peak serum concentrations, and hepatotoxicity following premature cessation of intravenous N-acetylcysteine (NAC) treatment in the setting of a massive acetaminophen overdose. ⋯ In patients with massive acetaminophen ingestion, erratic absorption may occur, and toxic serum concentrations may persist beyond a standard 21-hour course of intravenous NAC therapy. Acetaminophen concentrations and aminotransferase levels should be evaluated at the completion of the intravenous NAC infusion to ensure complete elimination of acetaminophen and absence of hepatotoxicity and to exclude the need for prolonged treatment.

Multicenter Study
Assessment of clinical pharmacists' interventions in French hospitals: results of a multicenter study.
The development of clinical pharmacy activities in most European countries is underway; however, data on these activities are still poorly reported. Multicenter studies are necessary to standardize and demonstrate the value of clinical pharmacy activities in these countries. ⋯ In French hospitals, pharmacists contribute to preventing DRPs during medication order validation. This study suggests that a few types of drugs and errors constitute a substantial proportion of PIs. Knowledge of the most frequent DRPs could significantly increase the efficiency of clinical PIs.

Preventing significant oxygen desaturation and hypotension through adequate analgesia and sedation during nonemergent intubation in neonates is desirable. However, in many neonatal intensive care units, elective intubations occur without adequate premedication. There is significant variation in the choice of premedication agent(s) and doses, and an ideal regimen for use during nonemergent intubation has not been developed. ⋯ A systematic approach to premedication during nonemergent intubation successfully prevented acute physiological changes.
