Laparoscopic demonstration of vena cava wall penetration by inferior vena cava filters in an ovine model.
To verify the penetration of struts and hooks of two inferior vena cava (IVC) filters (Günther tulip retrievable filter [GTF] and Celect filter) through the vena cava wall and to assess local or systemic complications resulting from this penetration. ⋯ GTFs and Celect filters can produce a real penetration 1 month after implantation. This penetration did not lead to any complications in the IVC or surrounding tissues and did not compromise the subject's health in any of the studied cases.

Comparative StudyMalfunctioning and infected tunneled infusion catheters: over-the-wire catheter exchange versus catheter removal and replacement.
To compare the safety and effectiveness of over-the-wire catheter exchange (catheter-exchange) with catheter removal and replacement (removal-replacement) at a new site for infected or malfunctioning tunneled infusion catheters. ⋯ Catheter-exchange of tunneled infusion catheters results in a higher infection rate compared with removal-replacement at a new site. The rate of catheter malfunction is not significantly different between the two groups. Catheter-exchange is an alternative for patients with tunneled infusion catheters who have limited venous access, but this technique should not be expanded for use in all patients. Because of the size of this initial study, further investigation is needed to verify the results in a larger sample size.

Comparative StudySilicone and polyurethane tunneled infusion catheters: a comparison of durability and breakage rates.
To examine the overall durability and breakage rates of dual-lumen silicone catheters in comparison with power-injectable dual-lumen polyurethane catheters. ⋯ There were fewer catheter fractures with the polyurethane catheter compared with the silicone catheter, although there was no difference in the total access site service interval for the two catheter types.

Case ReportsTherapeutic sclerosis of a small liver cyst that caused obstructive jaundice.
The authors describe the case of a small liver cyst (2 cm in diameter) causing obstructive jaundice that was treated with aspiration and therapeutic sclerosis. The procedure was performed with use of a microcatheter and wire system to access the cyst, which was injected with minocycline hydrochloride. At present, 9 months after treatment, the levels of hepatobiliary enzymes are within normal ranges, and no sign of cyst regrowth has been detected on imaging.

Case ReportsComputed tomography-guided cement augmentation for pain relief of a symptomatic sternal fracture.
The authors report a novel application of cement augmentation for treatment of a symptomatic sternal fracture. Sternal fractures often cause debilitating pain and can affect ventilation. ⋯ The patient subsequently reported good pain relief and improved breathing. Sternoplasty may be a viable alternative for patients with sternal fractures and refractory pain.
