Excimer laser-assisted retrieval of Günther Tulip vena cava filters: a pilot study in a canine Model.
Although most Günther Tulip filters (GTFs) can be safely retrieved within a few months after implantation, their recommended safe retrieval period is within a few weeks. This study aims to assess the feasibility of excimer laser-assisted retrieval of GTFs incorporated into the inferior vena cava (IVC) wall in a canine model. ⋯ Laser-assisted retrieval of a GTF incorporated into the IVC wall is feasible in dogs.

Review Meta AnalysisA metaanalysis of the effectiveness and safety of ozone treatments for herniated lumbar discs.
To determine statistically significant effects of oxygen/ozone treatment of herniated discs with respect to pain, function, and complication rate. ⋯ Oxygen/ozone treatment of herniated discs is an effective and extremely safe procedure. The estimated improvement in pain and function is impressive in view of the broad inclusion criteria, which included patients ranging in age from 13 to 94 years with all types of disc herniations. Pain and function outcomes are similar to the outcomes for lumbar discs treated with surgical discectomy, but the complication rate is much lower (<0.1%) and the recovery time is significantly shorter.

Comparative StudyAgreement between competing imaging measures of response of hepatocellular carcinoma to yttrium-90 radioembolization.
There are currently at least six major competing criteria used to determine response to yttrium-90 and other liver-directed therapies, including: (i) Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST); (ii) World Health Organization (WHO), (iii) volumetric, (iv) two-dimensional (2D) European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and (v) three-dimensional (3D) EASL criteria; and (vi) functional diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. This study evaluated agreement among these competing tumor response classification schemes based on quantitative measurements of tumor size, necrosis, and changes in water mobility. ⋯ Classification of HCC response to (90)Y radioembolization is related to which of the competing criteria are used. It is recommended that anatomic imaging criteria be used as the primary method to determine response and functional imaging criteria be used as a complementary secondary method.

Comparative Study Controlled Clinical TrialRadiologic versus endoscopic placement of percutaneous gastrostomy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: multivariate analysis of tolerance, efficacy, and survival.
To compare percutaneous radiologic gastrostomy (PRG) and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) in terms of tolerance, efficacy, and survival in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ⋯ PRG is more efficacious and better tolerated than PEG, essentially because it avoids the respiratory decompensation that may occur in PEG. Therefore, PRG should be preferred in cases of ALS. Survival is linked to ALS evolution and not to the choice of PRG or PEG placement.
