Comparative StudyMatched-pair analysis of endovascular versus open surgical repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms in young patients at low risk.
To compare clinical outcomes of endovascular and open aortic repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) in young patients at low risk. It was hypothesized that endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) compares favorably with open aneurysm repair (OAR) in these patients. ⋯ Results from this observational study indicate that EVAR offers a favorable alternative to OAR in young patients at low risk.

Biliary sequelae following radioembolization with Yttrium-90 microspheres.
Yttrium-90 (90Y) radioembolization has emerged as a promising and safe therapeutic modality for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or metastatic liver cancer. The present report describes biliary sequelae following intraarterial 90Y therapy in patients with HCC or liver metastases. ⋯ 90Y therapy in patients with HCC or metastatic disease to the liver is associated with an acceptable rate of biliary toxicities. Further studies assessing long-term biliary sequelae are warranted.

Evaluation of the Amplatzer vascular plug for proximal splenic artery embolization.
Proximal splenic artery embolization is performed for splenic salvage in the setting of trauma or before splenectomy in patients with splenomegaly. Typically, this has been done with the use of metallic coils, but precise placement of the first deposited coil may be limited. The Amplatzer vascular plug (AVP) may be used to accomplish precise proximal splenic artery embolization. ⋯ In this preliminary series, use of the AVP allowed for precise proximal splenic artery embolization.

Peripherally inserted central catheter placement in patients with unsuspected central venous obstruction.
To evaluate the feasibility and clinical usefulness of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement in patients with unsuspected central venous obstruction. ⋯ PICCs can be safely placed across central venous lesions in patients with asymptomatic central venous stenosis or obstruction. Contralateral placement is favorable in cases of ipsilateral passage failure.

Comparative StudyEndovascular repair in traumatic thoracic aortic injuries: comparison with open surgical repair.
Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has emerged as an alternative to open surgical repair (OSR) of traumatic thoracic aortic injury (TTAI). Herein immediate and midterm outcomes of TEVAR are compared with those of OSR. ⋯ TEVAR of TTAI is associated with lower perioperative mortality and morbidity rates than OSR, with no significant graft-related complications on midterm follow-up. The study data support the continued use of TEVAR in this context.
